Limited spots available for Memphis Grizzlies House 5K and
new St. Jude Memphis Family Race
MEMPHIS, TENN. (October 29, 2009) – The St. Jude Memphis Marathon has
reached full capacity with 3,500 registered participants. Limited entries
are still available for the Memphis Grizzlies House 5K and the new St. Jude
Memphis Family Race. All races, including the sold out St. Jude Memphis
Half Marathon, are part of the St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend to be held
December 5 and benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital®, one of the
world's premier pediatric cancer research centers.
The registration cap for the marathon, half marathon and 5K was extended
this year to 15,500, which includes 3,500 spots for the marathon, 4,000
spots in the Memphis Grizzlies House 5K and 8,000 spots in the half
marathon. The family race has a limit of 200 family entries. The marathon
committee established race caps in 2008 to ensure a safe and quality race
experience for all participants. For more information and to register,
visit www.stjudemarathon.org.
Currently more than 3,000 race participants have registered as St. Jude
Heroes. These individuals are raising money for St. Jude by obtaining
pledges from family and friends as they train for their chosen race.
Existing race participants can sign up to become a St. Jude Hero by logging
onto www.stjudeheroes.org. Last year, more than 2,400 St. Jude Heroes
participated in race weekend and raised more than $1.9 million for St.
Jude.
For the first time in the seven year history of race weekend, marathon and
half marathon participants will run through the St. Jude campus, between
miles four and five, passing patient care facilities and research buildings
that are integral to the St. Jude mission of finding cures and saving
children. The St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend, presented by Juice Plus+®,
is a collaborative effort between St. Jude and the Memphis Runners Track
Club.
