FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SURF CITY USA® MARATHON AND HALF MARATHON SOLD OUT
Limited charity entries available via Free Wheelchair Mission
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Monday, January 4, 2010 – Race organizers today
announced that all "traditional" entry slots into the Surf City USA®
Marathon and Half Marathon are sold out. The wildly popular Half Marathon
booked on Christmas Eve while the Full Marathon reached capacity earlier in
December; both are by far the earliest-ever sell-outs for these 14th annual
events. Precious few 5K slots remain available, but are going fast.
A record 19,000 runners are now signed up for the February 7, 2010 (Super
Bowl Sunday) race. Detailed information is available at
www.runsurfcity.com.
Limited "charity" entries remain available in all divisions via the Fifth
Annual "Run for Mobility" which benefits the Free Wheelchair Mission. To
qualify, entrants must complete the necessary paperwork and raise $500 by
January 15th. The very top fundraiser with over $32,560 (a full shipping
container of 550 wheelchairs), will qualify for a trip to Peru to help
distribute wheelchairs to those in need, then take part in the III Maratón
Internacional de Pacasmayo (terms and conditions apply).
In the 5th Annual Run for Mobility, runners will use the marathon, half
marathon, and 5K to raise funds to build and deliver specially engineered
wheelchairs around the world! These ingenious wheelchairs are made of
outdoor furniture and mountain bike wheels, designed to withstand the often
rough terrain of underdeveloped countries. At just $59.20 each, this
remarkable fundraising event will change the lives of over 4,000 people!
The Surf City USA Marathon, which serves as a "qualifier" for the
prestigious Boston Marathon, was rated among the top five marathon
experiences in America by Marathon and Beyond. The award-winning course is
scenic and flat with much of the race taking place on the beachfront
running path, but also featuring the famed pier, beauty of the Bolsa Chica
Wetlands and serenity of Central Park. More than 30,000 spectators from
the 48 contiguous states and 19 foreign countries are anticipated to pack
the downtown and outlying areas.
Formerly known as the Pacific Shoreline Marathon, the 14th Surf City USA
Marathon is held on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010; racing begins at 6:50
a.m. The starting point is on Pacific Coast Highway, just south of Main
St. and the famed Huntington Beach Pier. Weekend highlights include the
two-day Active Lifestyle Beach Expo and Michelob Ultra Post Race Beer
Garden. More information is available at www.runsurfcity.com.
