SEB Tallinn Marathon Aims at New Records
The largest public sports event in the history of Estonia, SEB Tallinn
Marathon, will be held on September 8. More than 12,000 participants from
37 countries have already registered on its various distance courses.
"The amount of registered people allows for the prediction that the total
number of participants would be 20,000, which is the record of all times.
Since this year we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first marathon
held in Estonia, the record-breaking participation would be a nice homage
to 100 years of Estonian marathon history," said Mati Lilliallik, the main
organizer of the SEB Tallinn Marathon.
Included in the 50 most prestigious marathons, SEB Tallinn Marathon,
besides being popular among Estonian sports enthusiasts, is also attractive
for the foreign participants. There are participants from 37 countries that
have registered to this year's marathon, which is the same amount of
different countries as in the last year.
"Participants are coming from all continents, except for Antarctica. People
fly to Tallinn from Kenya, Ethiopia, Japan, China, Australia, the USA,
Brazil, etc. Of course, the participants from our neighbouring countries
and most of the EU countries are presented," Lilliallik said.
This year, SEB Tallinn Marathon, that celebrates the 100th anniversary of
Estonian marathon, the participants can test themselves on a marathon and a
half marathon course, and 10-kilometer running and walking course (incl.
Nordic walking). Haribo's children's course awaits the youngest runners.
The start of SEB Tallinn Marathon marathon course will be given on
September 8, at 9 a.m. The half marathon runners start at 11:30 a.m. and at
1:30 p.m. the 10-kilometer runners and walkers start their race.
The children will start Haribo's children's race a day earlier, on
September 7, at 2 p.m. On the same day, at 6 p.m. the spectacular opening
ceremony of SEB Tallinn Marathon will be held on Vabaduse Square, and it is
free for everyone. In addition to introducing the elite runners, the sports
enthusiasts are animated by the band Vitamiin. The evening ends with
powerful fireworks.
Registration (with discount) to SEB Tallinn Marathon is open until August
31st, on web page www.jooks.ee. One can also register at the SEB Tallinn
Marathon information stand at the Vabaduse Square that is open from 4th to
7th September, from 10 a.m – 7 p.m., and at the race center in the morning
of the race, from 7 a.m. - 8.30 a.m. Start materials are given to all the
interested persons already at the information stand. Also, the marathon
organizers are present at the information stand, ready to answer all your
questions about the race.
