(St. Paul, Minn.) – The Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon announced today that
Jason Hartman (28) of Grand Rapids, Mich., won the 28th annual race with a
finishing time of 2:12:09. The marathon also hosted the USA Men's and
Women's Masters' Championships. Tracy Lokken, a returning favorite to the
course, secured the 2009 USA Men's Masters Championship at 2:22:34; as
previously announced, Colleen De Reuck (45) of Boulder, Colo., secured the
2009 USA Women's Masters Championship at 2:32:37. At the race, runners
embraced ideal running conditions with temperatures hovering in the mid
50s. The 28th Annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon started in downtown
Minneapolis and finished at the state capitol in St. Paul, Minn.

Hartman maintained a lead after interrupting his own momentum during mile
23 to stop – and backtrack – to pick up his water bottle that he had
inadvertently dropped. Following Hartman, Augustus Kavutu Mbus (32) of
Tampa, Fla., placed second with 2:13:03 and John Njoroge (24) of Coon
Rapids, Minn., placed third with 2:13:26. Carl Rundell (41; Birmingham,
Mich.) and Robert Weiner (44; Evergreen, Colo.) placed second and third for
the Men's Masters Championship, respectively, with finishing times of
2:25:41 and 2:27:09 respectively.

De Reuck, a four-time Olympian, boasted a more than ten-minute lead while
crossing the finish line in the women's masters race; Susanah Beck (41) of
Brunswick, Maine, placed second with 2:43:18, and Mary Coordt (40) of
Elkgrove, Calif., placed third with 2:45:00.

Course record holder in the wheeler division, Saul Mendoza (42) of
Wimberly, TX, finished with a lightening fast speed of 1:40:50. Scott
Parson (50; San Jose, Calif.) and Tony Iniguez (39: Savoy, Ill.) finished
with second and third place times of 1:40:55 and 1:44:40 respectively.

"Each of our championships had spectacular highlights and we proud of all
of our fields," said Virginia Brophy Achman, executive director of Twin
Cities Marathon, Inc. "Congratulations to our winners, and to all the
runners who made conscious decisions to train long-term for a challenging,
yet rewarding athletic experience. The Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon has
reached strength in numbers and popularity because of the local, national
and international running communities that find a unique sense of community
in our race."

The USA Men's and Women's Masters Marathon Championships were USA Track &
Field national championship events that started with the open Medtronic
Twin Cities Marathon field at 8:00 a.m., Sunday, October 4. The 28th annual
