Carrie Tollefson to Run First Marathon at Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon
Three Generations of Olympian's Family to Participate in Events
St. Paul, Minn. - April 30, 2013 - Olympian Carrie Tollefson, one of the
most decorated distance runners in Minnesota history, plans to make her
marathon debut at the 2013 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon on Oct. 6. The
13-time Minnesota High School State Champion, who has won multiple NCAA and
USA Championships in her storied career, announced her plans in a video on
her website www.CTolleRun.com earlier today.
"It is time for me to join the crazy group of marathoners and have some fun
running the streets of the Twin Cities with everyone else," the Dawson
native explained. "I have loved representing this state at different
running events around the world and it only made sense to try this event
right here where my running career started. I am so excited to run, and
scared at the same time."
Three generations of the Tollefson family plans to run Medtronic Twin
Cities Marathon Weekend events - from the Diaper Dash and Toddler Trot at
the Medtronic TC Family Events, the TC 10K and TC 5K, presented by
Fredrikson & Byron, and the Medtronic TC 10 Mile and the marathon itself.
With less than six month to go until the starting gun fires for the 2013
Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, the field for the 12,200 runner event is
more than 50% full. The 32nd annual event which runs from downtown
Minneapolis to the State Capitol in St. Paul is set for Sunday, Oct. 6.
Runners representing every state have entered the race known as The Most
Beautiful Urban Marathon in America®. Seventeen countries are
represented in the field - including Iceland, Guatemala, China, and the
Philippines. So far, the field is 55% male, with 30% of entrants
participating in their first marathon. The oldest runners in the field are
85-years-old; the youngest is 14.
"We're glad to see the Twin Cities and the rest of the country continuing
to commit to their health and wellness through running events like ours,"
Twin Cities In Motion Executive Director Virginia Brophy Achman said. "We
appreciate that so many people from such diverse backgrounds choose to run
their marathon with us! As an Olympian and role model, we're thrilled that
Carrie will be running the event with us as well."
The marathon is part of a full weekend of events beginning Friday, Oct. 4
with the Health & Fitness Expo at Saint Paul RiverCentre, continuing
Saturday, Oct. 5 with the TC 10K and TC 5K, presented by Fredikson & Byron,
and the Medtronic TC Family events on the State Capitol grounds and
culminating Sunday, Oct. 6 with the popular Medtronic TC 10 Mile and the
Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon itself.
Runners interested in participating in the marathon can register at
tcmevents.org. Registration is also open for the TC 10K and TC 5K,
presented by Fredrikson & Byron, as well as the Medtronic TC Family Events.
Lottery registration for the Medtronic TC 10 Mile opens July 10.
