FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon Registration Numbers Up By 24%
as
Early Bird Registration Deadline Approaches
(Victoria, BC - July 13, 2010) Registration numbers for the GoodLife
Fitness Victoria Marathon are up by 24% compared to this time last year. To
date over 5,500 registrations have been received for all four events - the
Marathon, Half Marathon, 8K Road Race and the Thrifty Foods Kids Run &
Marathon - 1,100 more than 2009. With the 'early bird' deadline just two
days away - on July 15 - this number is expected to increase considerably.
"The sport of running doesn't just show a commitment to an event but a
commitment to a healthier lifestyle," says Cathy Noel, General Manager.
"With an increase of 24% overall and 28% more women signed up compared to
last year, it is evident that many are choosing running as their activity
of choice."
The number of first-time marathoners is also up compared to 2009 - 265
runners have chosen Victoria to run their first marathon. "From my
experience, running is very social and an easy activity to fit in to a busy
week with family, work and "super mom" activities." says Noel. "The first
step is to sign up and over 5,500 have done this with "88" days to go -
Congratulations!"
The 'early bird' marathon entry fee is $95. The deadline also applies to
the Half Marathon and the 8K Road Race where the fees are $70 and $35.
After July 15 regular registration fees will apply - $105 for the Marathon,
$80 for the Half Marathon and $40 for the 8K Road Race. The entry fee for
the Thrifty Foods Kids Run & Marathon remains at $15 until October 9.
The 31st Annual GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon takes place Sunday,
October 10, 2010. The Victoria Marathon is ranked number one in Canada for
most Boston Marathon qualifiers and number two in Canada of top Boston
Marathon qualifying races. For the second year it will host the 2010
Provincial Marathon Championships. There is $26,000 available in prize
money with $3,000 each going to the top male and female and a $5,000 bonus
for a new men's or women's course record. In 2006, Steve Osaduik broke a
25-year record by winning the Marathon in 2:16:49. In addition to the
Marathon there is a Half Marathon, 8K Road Race and Thrifty Foods Kids Run
& Marathon. For more details, visit www.runvictoriamarathon.com.
