FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon
Regular Registration Deadline - September 15
(Victoria, BC - September 12, 2011) The regular registration deadline for
the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon is just four days away - on
September 15. To date, over 8,600 registrations have been received for all
four events - the Marathon, Half Marathon, 8K Road Race and the Thrifty
Foods Kids Run & Marathon. It is expected that there will be an increase in
registrations over the next three days before the late registration fees
apply.
All four races have been capped - in 2009 and 2010 the Half Marathon sold
out prior to race day. The Marathon is capped at 4,000; Half Marathon at
6,800; 8K Road Race at 4,000 and the Thrifty Foods Kids Run & Marathon at
1,000.
"The temperature is perfect for training so if you have been thinking about
registering, now is the time to stop thinking and make the commitment,"
says Cathy Noel, General Manager. "For those first timers to the event, I
promise you that the energy you will feel at the start line, the
encouragement along the course from other participants, and the people
lining the route, will be memories you can look back on for years to come.
Register now!"
The regular marathon entry fee is $105. The deadline also applies to the
Half Marathon and the 8K Road Race where the fees are $80 and $40. After
September 15 late registration fees will apply - $130 for the Marathon, $90
for the Half Marathon and $45 for the 8K Road Race. The entry fee for the
Thrifty Foods Kids Run & Marathon remains at $15 until October 9.
Volunteers are still needed in many areas. "We are so thankful to all the
volunteers that come back year after to year prior to race day and on race
day," says Noel. "If you haven't registered yet to come back to your
specific job, now is the time. If you are a new volunteer, we need your
help in all areas of the event to make sure the participants are set up to
run or walk their best possible race. Apply now online!"
The 32nd Annual GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon takes place Sunday,
October 9th, 2011. For the third year in a row it will host the 2011
Provincial Marathon Championships. There is $37,300 available in prize
money with $3,000 each going to the top male and female and a $5,000 bonus
for a new men's or women's course record. In 2006, Steve Osaduik broke a
25-year record by winning the Marathon in 2:16:49. For more details, visit
