Press Release - Victoria Marathon - 10/1/12

                 Traffic Advisory for Sunday, October 7, 2012
                33rd Annual GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon

(Victoria, BC - October 1, 2012). On Sunday, October 7, the GoodLife 
Fitness Victoria Marathon route will start in downtown Victoria on Menzies 
and wind through the downtown core into James Bay and Beacon Hill Park, 
along Dallas Rd to Gonzales Bay. It will proceed into Fairfield, Oak Bay 
and Uplands before the turnaround. The route then returns the same way. 
There will be a loop at the Lawndale/Cowichan area that will be the 
turnaround point for the Half Marathon.

Some small residential roadways on the route will be closed for various 
periods of time. Anyone living in the area south of McNeill Avenue, east of 
Foul Bay Avenue and west of Oliver Street and need to cross the marathon 
route in their vehicle, may do so on Foul Bay Road at McNeill Avenue.

Following the start of the two main races - the Half Marathon at 7:30 a.m. 
and the Marathon at 8:45 am Menzies, Michigan, Government and Wharf will be 
closed between 7:25 - 7:55 am and 8:40 - 9:10 am Johnson will be closed 
from Wharf to Cook between 7:35 - 8:05 am and 8:50 - 9:20 am All traffic 
will have full access north of Humboldt, west of Cook following the last 
runner at approximately 9:30 am to access Douglas Street and Blanshard and 
escape north out of Victoria.

No traffic will be permitted on Dallas Rd. between 7:15 am and 2:00 pm.  
The police will be opening the course as soon as it is safe for 
participants and allow cars on the route. Please note that the early start 
Marathon is at 6:30 am - watch out for lead cyclists and runners.

Police will be allowing some traffic to travel across the race route when 
it is safe; however it is advised that vehicles be parked on a street not 
included on the Marathon route. Your vehicle will be towed from the roadway 
if it is affecting the running route.

The police will begin opening the roads as the participants finish the 
different sections of the course. At 2:30 pm all streets will be re-opened 
to traffic except for Belleville Street between Douglas and Menzies, and 
Government Street between Superior and Humboldt. These streets will re-open 
once finish line equipment has been taken down.
