Antonenko Wins 2005 Under Armour Baltimore Marathon
Record 10,000+ runners participate in annual event

Baltimore, MD – On a beautiful Saturday, October 15th morning, Mykola
Antonenko from Ukraine pulled away from a pack of runners around the
16-mile mark to claim his first-ever Under Armour Baltimore Marathon title
in 2:15:39. The win was also the first for a runner not from Kenya in the
five-year history of the event. Russia’s Ramilya Burangulova was the first
female to cross the tape in 2:41:58 to capture the crown for the second
straight year. Antonenko and Burangulova each walked away with $15,000 in
prize money.

Both Antonenko and Burangulova ran with the lead pack for most of the race
until both felt the pace was too slow for their comfort and pulled away
from their competitors with a little over 10 miles to go. Antonenko
finished 1:21 ahead of Russia’s Mikhail Khobotov, while Burangulova was in
front of Ukraine’s Ilona Baranova by 3:45. Lithuania’s Mindaugas Pukstas
and Russia’s Marina Bychkova captured third for the men and the women,
respectively.

In the CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Half Marathon, Morocco’s Abderrahim
Haji and Kenya’s Samuel Ndereba battled all the way to finish line for the
second year in a row, with Haji winning again, this time only by one second
in 1:06:08. Ukraine’s Natalya Berkut held off Ethiopia’s Aster Demissie to
win the women’s title.

Kenya’s Joseph Koskei and Russia’s Elena Orlova were the male and female
winners of the United Way 5K, respectively, while the Falls Road Running
Store team of Mark Gilmore, Joe Smith, Brian Godesky and Eric Estrada won
the Legg Mason Funds Team Relay event.

The event saw nearly 11,000 runners register for the event, marking the
first time the Under Armour Baltimore Running Festival has had that many
people participate. The 2006 version of the event will take place on
October 14, 2006.
