             The National Black Marathoners' Association (NBMA) 
      Selects the 10th Annual New Jersey Marathon for its 2006 Event. 


The National Black Marathoners' Association has decided to help the New 
Jersey Marathon celebrate its 10th anniversary by selecting it for our 2006 
event. It is held in Long Branch, NJ by the New Jersey Road Runners Club. 

The other race day events include the Long Branch Half Marathon and the 
Gold’s Gym Two-Person Marathon Relay. The race starts and finishes on the 
beautiful oceanfront. These events are held on Sunday, April 30, 2006. 
Proceeds from the races are used to benefit children’s charities. 

The New Jersey Road Runners Club, in cooperation with the Ocean Place 
Resort and Spa (OPR), hosts the two-day Health and Fitness Expo on April 28 
and 29. The NJRRC/OPR will also host the 3-mile Breakfast Fun Run/Walk, the 
Kids' Races for the Homeless, and the Family Marathon on Saturday morning 
Aril 29. These events are held at the Great Lawn adjoining the host hotel 
on the Ocean Promenade.

Also, the NBMA is accepting scholarship applications from high school cross 
country and track (1500 meters or longer) runners. The application deadline 
is April 15. 

Our Mission 

The National Black Marathoners' Association (NBMA) is a not-for-profit 
organization. It is open to everyone, regardless of your athletic ability 
or previous marathon experience. Our objectives are to 

 - Encourage Black Americans and others to pursue a healthy life-style 
through long distance running and walking.
 - Serve as a vehicle for Black American distance runners across the nation 
to meet in mass at a single marathon.
 - Provide scholarships to deserving high school boy and girl distance 
runners. Donations for the scholarship fund may be made at 
www.blackmarathoners.org/.
