                 THE 33rd ANNUAL MAUI MARATHON
             WILL BE HELD SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2003

	The 33rd Annual Maui Marathon will be held on Sunday, September 21,
2003.
	The oldest continuously held running event in Hawaii and one of the
oldest marathons in the United States, the Maui Marathon is ranked as the
number 9 destination marathon in North America by the "Ultimate Guide to
Marathons". Recognized as one of the ten most scenic marathons in North
America by Runners World Magazine, this 26.2-mile course from Kahului to
Kaanapali on the Hawaiian island of Maui often runs within 50 feet of the
Pacific Ocean.
	There is $10,700 in prize money awarded and all finishers receive a
tee shirt, logo medallion, finishers certificate, results booklet and
complimentary massage at the finish line.
	Entry forms are available now and special entry fees are in effect
until December 31, 2002 including: $50 for early birds and $35 for
kama'aina and active military. After that date, the entry fee for the Maui
Marathon becomes $60 until May 31, 2003. Valley Isle Road Runners members
may enter for $35 until May 31, 2003. If entries are still available after
June 1, 2003, the fee per person in every category will be $75. Entry forms

On-line registration will be available after December 1, 2002.

	Maui Marathon race week also includes an award-winning carbo load
party at the event's host hotel The Westin Maui, the Maui Tacos 5K, a
two-day Sports & Fitness Expo, the Finishers Party and Award Ceremony, and
fund raising activities for Maui charities.
	Hundreds of Mauians participate in the Marathon's fund raising
activities. Since 1995, the Maui Marathon has raised more than $181,000 for
youth-oriented Maui charities.
