Registration May Close Early For Singapore Marathon

Record 16,000 Runners Have Signed up
for the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon Target of 18,000 runners
increased to 21,000 to accommodate demand

SINGAPORE, 5 October 2005 - A record number of 16,160 runners have signed
up for the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon at the close of the
promotion period on 30 September 2005, surpassing last year's final
registration figure of 14,450 runners.

With a month to go before the official registration closing date on 14
November 2005, the organisers - Singapore Sports Council and Singapore
Athletics Association - are gearing up to manage the overwhelming response.

The organisers will be able to only accommodate an additional 3,000
runners, i.e. maximum of 21,000 runners, as extra championships, runner
bibs, and race entry packs, etc have to be ordered. The registration is
expected to close ahead of 14 November once this limit is reached.

Registration updates will now be provided regularly. Runners are
encouraged to register immediately and not wait till the end of the
registration period as they may be disappointed.

This year's marathon has also seen an increase in the number of female
runners. To date, 4,730 female runners have registered, a 20% increase
from last year's total of 3,940 female runners.

This year's new category - the Standard Chartered 10km CEO Challenge - has
attracted Rupert Keely, President of Visa International; Teo Ser Luck,
General Manager of DHL; Michel Longhini, President of BNP Paribas Asia, and
others to sign up to run for charity. Their registration fee of $1,000 per
CEO will be donated in full to the official charities of the Standard
Chartered Singapore Marathon - The Business Times Budding Artists Fund and
Seeing Is Believing, a global community initiative to restore sight for 1
million people.

Oon Jin Teik, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Sports Council, is
delighted with the tremendous response to date:

"The stature of the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon has grown year on
year. Runners have consistently given us great feedback on their positive
experiences running one of Asia's best marathons. The response from
serious runners and casual joggers is testament to this marathon being a
serious racer's race as well as a great community event".

Other things to look out for includes the Kids Dash, Which is open to all
children under the age of 13, the marathon village which is held in
conjunction with the Sports and Fitness Expo at Suntec City and the
Carnival on the Padang on race day itself.
