Location: | Western Springs, IL, USA |
Description: | Bemis Woods a forest preserve just east of I294 on the North side of Ogden. The start of the trail is a little way along the entrance road. There are maps with distances at this location and at other access points along the trail. The trail is paved with asphalt and links a series of forest preserves all the way to the Brookfield Zoo parking lot. It's nearly all wooded, mostly flat, and some parts are along Salt Creek. It's popular with bikers too. There are several road crossings between the forest preserves, and some are busy, but not too busy most of the time. I have not found any water pumps/fountains along the route. There may be some in the parks along the trail, but not close to the trail. You'll probably see some deer and other wildlife unless it's too busy. Total one-way distance is 6.6 miles according to the map, so a round trip is almost exactly a half-marathon. |
