The London Marathon is the richest marathon in the world and is arguably more committed to its elite field than any other marathon in the country. It has always had a history of seeking out and paying for the fastest marathoners in the world to participate in its race.

The Elite Race Post-Race Writeups The Men's Race: Two men ran sub-2:05 at the 2015 London Marathon in as close and fast a race as we've seen. While Wilson Kipsang was unable to defend his title and notch a third London title; Eliud Kipchoge showed that he is currently best in the world with his 2:04:42 win as followup to his 2:04:11 victory in Chicago in 2014. World record holder Dennis Kimetto was third in 2:05:50. Read the full story: The Men's Race The Women's Race: For the 2015 Londond Marathon, organizers brought together four women who had previously broken 2:20 and a cast of extras who could run nearly as fast. In a srong field the year before, four women ran sub-2:21, and the plan for 2015 was to have the pacers lead the 2015 competitors out in the same fashion as 2014 but to even better results. Instead, the competitors ignored the pacers who despite slowing at times were as much as 14 seconds ahead of the women they were supposed to be guiding.
