Press Release - The Amazing Maasai Marathon - 2/2/11

       The Amazing Maasai Ultra, Kenya 42KM/100KM Community Marathon - 
                        Registration Open to All

Registration has opened for the Amazing Maasai Ultra, a 42km & 100km 
community marathon that will take place in Kenya's wild, northern frontier 
region of Laipikia on Thursday, June 23rd 2011.

International runners of all standards are invited to join local Maasai 
runners for this unique community event in the foothills of beautiful Mt. 
Kenya, the homeland of endurance running.

Race Week (19-25th June 2011) allows for 4 days of altitude 
acclimatization, plus post-race awards ceremony. Participants will enjoy a 
welcome evening of Maasai entertainment, and the options for extra 
activities abound (safaris, Mt. Kenya treks, camel treks, conservation 
talks, and more).

The standard Race Week package is US$1,530 (GBP 954). Price includes: 5 
nights' accommodation, all meals, full race support, transfers to/from 
Nairobi airport (everything except flights and souverniers). All race 
proceeds go directly to sponsor the secondary education of local Maasai 
girls.

About the Amazing Maasai Ultra 42km & 100km Community Marathons The Reason 
We're Running The Amazing Maasai Ultra is being held to raise funds to 
sponsor Maasai school girls through secondary school in Kenya (US$400 per 
year per girl for 4 years). All race proceeds and donations go to support 
the girls through "Friends of Ilamaiyo", a US- registered non-profit 
organization.

The Course: Both the 42km & 100km races will be run along unsealed roads 
and paths in the bush terrain of the lower Rift Valley. There will be areas 
of long hills, flat bush lands, and rolling countryside. Participants will 
experience the beautiful raw wilderness of Kenya’s Maasai country alongside 
the best endurance runners in the world, for an ultra adventure of a 
lifetime.
