   REGISTRATIONS FOR THE 2007 EDITION OF THE BARCELONA MARATHON ARE OPEN

The 1st of July marked the opening of registrations for the next edition of 
the Catalan event. The deadline for inscriptions has been set to February 
18, 2007. The 2006 Barcelona Marathon was held in March and included 
participants from all over the world. The start included no less than 7,000 
runners, the highest ever witnessed for this Catalan event. The 
participants were cheered on by thousands of Barcelonans, who took to the 
streets in numbers never seen before. The route of the 2006 marathon, which 
set off from the Plaza de España, lead the runners past the main historical 
landmarks of the city, including the Paseo de Gràcia, the Sagrada Familia, 
and the statue of Columbus. The race was a tremendous achievement and an 
unprecedented success. The extraordinary mobilisation of local residents, 
the high number of registered competitors and its intense media coverage 
made it a year to be remembered. 

Concerning the final results, the race was won by Kenyan Joseph Nguram in 
the men's category and Ethiopian Haile Kebelush in the women's category, 
having completed the race in 2h:12.36 and 2h:41.23 respectively. The first 
Spaniards to cross the finishing line were Víctor Gonzalo Guirao (2h:25.31) 
in the men's category, and Anna Rosa Montero (2h:59.51) in the women's. 

Registrations for the 2007 edition end on 18 February, so time is running 
out. For those who haven't signed up yet, now is the time to do so.
