Press Release - Bournemouth Marathon - 5/22/13

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

                    Britain's Finest - and Fittest!
Heading for the Bournemouth Marathon Festival

BRITAIN'S finest and fittest runners are being urged to sign up for the
first-ever Bournemouth Marathon Festival and enjoy an autumn activity break
while combining "running as it should be" with a weekend away beside the
sea.

"Bournemouth is one of the UK's favourite seaside destinations, and the
Bournemouth Marathon Festival is the perfect reason to make a quick return
visit," says Race Director Neil Kilgour. "It's a real family occasion, so
whether you're a runner or a spectator, now's the time to start planning a
great weekend away."

The Bournemouth Marathon Festival takes place on October 5 and 6, with the
marathon and half-marathon scheduled for the Sunday morning. Thousands of
runners from across the UK and abroad have already signed up for the
historic first event which also links to Bournemouth Tourism's website for
those looking for accommodation. They're determined to be among the first
to take part in what will become a highlight of the UK running calendar and
a great way to end the season on a high.

Believed to be the only event of its kind in the UK, the Bournemouth
Marathon Festival combines a comprehensive range of races with some of the
country's most beautiful coastal scenery. Runners of all ages and abilities
can choose between two junior races, five-and ten-kilometre events, a
half-marathon, and a full marathon, all overlooking Bournemouth's
seven-mile-long golden sand beach. Much of the course will be laid out
along the resort's promenade, with unique "diversions" along the town's two
historic piers.

The five-kilometre "Speed of Light" race takes place at dusk on Saturday,
October 5 with emphasis on light around the route, providing runners and
spectators with an unforgettable experience. On the same day runners taking
part in the "Supersonic" 10k run will be treated to music from bands along
the route, showcasing local musical talent. Two junior races, designed to
fire children's enthusiasm for fitness, will guarantee there's something
for all the family. And on the morning of Sunday, October 6 the half
marathon precedes the main event of the weekend, the combination of
challenge and charm that is The Bournemouth Marathon itself - the pinnacle
of endurance athletics.

Here's a taster of what runners can expect in the half half marathon and
the full marathon. Both start at Kings Park in Bournemouth before heading
through the cafe cosmopolitan area of Southbourne and out towards the area
of natural beauty Hengistbury Head. Much of the closed road route takes
place on the stunning cliff tops and promenades of Bournemouth and Poole
with views towards the Isle of Wight and the Purbeck Hills. The final
section of the marathon also sees runners visit Poole's famous Sandbanks
and the iconic Poole Harbour.

"With miles of glorious, unspoilt golden sands and clear blue sea,
Bournemouth and Poole, provide a beautiful backdrop for the ultimate run in
a pure and clean natural environment. The spectacular, natural running
environment and fresh air of Bournemouth and Poole will be loved by runners
". says Mr Kilgour
