Press Release - City of Oaks Marathon - 10/31/10

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

City Of Oaks Marathon And Rex Healthcare Half Marathon
Return On Sunday, November 7, 2010

Registration still open for Triangle's largest marathon event

RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA (October 31, 2010) - A favorable weather forecast
for the fourth annual City of Oaks Marathon and Rex Healthcare Half
Marathon may boost participation to a record when the Triangle's largest
marathon event returns on Sunday, November 7, 2010. Registration is still
open through the official race website, www.cityofoaksmarathon.com.

While steady rainfall dampened spirits at last year's event and kept
participation numbers modest, the forecast for this year's race is looking
bright. Race organizers report that, with a total of 3,000 participants
entered so far, they expect the race field to surpass that of last year's
event. More than 3,500 registrants are expected.

Online registration for the marathon and half marathon are open through
Tuesday, November 2. Registration is also being accepted on site at the
Raleigh Running Outfitters Health & Fitness Expo, scheduled for November 5
and November 6 at N.C. State University's McKimmon Center.

Like last year's races, the 26.2-mile marathon and the 13.1-mile half
marathon will start and finish on N.C. State University's Centennial
Campus. This year's event features an expanded post-race party area near
the MRC Plaza.

The 2010 marathon and half marathon courses are designed to showcase many
of Raleigh's best features and the diversity of its landscape. Both courses
include a run on Hillsborough Street to reach downtown Raleigh and a loop
in the city center. The marathon course features a scenic trek through
Umstead Park.

This year, the two City of Oaks races will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society, Rex Hospital Foundation, and Girls on the Run. Presenting sponsor
Raleigh Running Outfitters established the City of Oaks Race in 2007 with
the intention of bringing a prestigious running event to the city of
Raleigh, one that would draw thousands of runners and spectators and would
have a meaningful impact on its beneficiaries. The race has boosted tourism
in the downtown area and other areas of the city. More than 3,200
participants joined the 2009 race field, and it contributed more than
$40,000 to the race charities.

A combined cash purse of $20,300 will be awarded in the marathon and half
marathon, in addition to commemorative awards and other giveaways. Both
races begin at 7:00 a.m. on race day.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a voluntary health organization
dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services.
It is the cause behind Team in Training, a nationwide sports training
program that enables volunteers to participate in marathons and half
marathons as a way to raise money toward the fight against these forms of
cancer.

The non-profit Rex Hospital Foundation raises funds to support and enhance
the programs and services of Rex Hospital in its efforts to improve the
health of the Wake County community.

The non-profit Girls on the Run of the Triangle is an innovative health
education and wellness program that combines training for a 3.1-mile
run/walk event with life-changing, leadership skill-building lessons that
encourage a healthy, active lifestyle in girls ages 8 to 12 years.

Raleigh Running Outfitters is an independently owned and operated retailer,
established in 2003 by Jim and Carolyn Micheels. The store sells shoes,
apparel, and accessories for all types of runners and walkers. It
specializes in proper shoe fitting, gait analysis, and expert advice from a
staff of experienced runners. Now with two locations, the store is located
at 7449 Six Forks Road in the Celebration at Six Forks shopping center in
Raleigh and at 2773 NC Highway 55 in the High House Crossing shopping
