Press Release - Council for Responsible Sport - 10/29/12

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Clif Bar Family Foundation Grant Will Benefit
Small Events Interested In Pursuing ReSport Certification

Grant will allow the Council for Responsible Sport to waive ReSport
Certification application fees for five small sports events in 2013.

October 29, 2012 - Portland, OR: Council for Responsible Sport Executive
Director Keith Peters announced today that the Portland-based non-profit
has been awarded a $2,500 grant from the Clif Bar Family Foundation. Funds
will be used to underwrite the ReSport Certification application fees of
small sports events - events with fewer than 1,000 participants - whose
reason for being is to raise funds for a community-based cause or local
charity.

"While we have had success working with many large running events and
triathlons, we have found that a lot of grassroots events would like to
pursue ReSport Certification, but decide not to so they can maximize
contributions to the event beneficiary," said Peters. "The Clif Bar Family
Foundation grant will help us bridge the gap between what we must charge
for ReSport Certification and the fees that small event organizers are
willing and able to pay."

Peters went on to say: "Without the Clif Bar Family Foundation grant, a
vital and committed group of event organizers might not be able to pursue
verification of the good work they are doing to reduce their environmental
footprint and increase their social impact."

The application for ReSport Certification fee waiver is available as an
online form here. Submission deadline is Friday, November 30, 2012.

Please note: Small event organizers are encouraged to become familiar with
the ReSport Certification application process and standards for
certification, and should not apply for a fee waiver without confidence
that at least basic ReSport Certification will be achieved. Complete
information about the ReSport Certification program can be found in this
section of the Council's Web site:

About the Council for Responsible Sport:

Our vision is a world where responsibly produced sports events are the
norm.

Our mission is to provide objective, independent verification of the
socially and environmentally responsible work event organizers are doing,
and to actively support event organizers who strive to make a difference in
their communities.

Our ReSport Certification program provides a comprehensive method for event
directors to incorporate environmental and socially responsible initiatives
into their events, while informing stakeholders about events that adhere to
a rigorous set of standards. ReSport Certified events range in size from
ParalympicsGB Training Camps held at the University of Bath in the UK, with
some 150 athletes participating, to the AJC Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta,
Georgia, with 55,077 timed finishers. To date, 41 different events have
achieved certification from the Council for Responsible Sport, serving over
590,000 athletes in the process.

The current version of the ReSport Certification standards was developed by
an outside working group of 18 sustainability experts and reviewed by a
wide range of stakeholders. ReSport Certification is modeled after the U.S.
Green Building Council's LEED Green Building Rating System, which certifies
buildings and materials according to resource conservation and energy
efficiency criteria.
