BMW Dallas Marathon and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children Announce
2016 Junior Race Director and Patient Champions
DALLAS (Nov. 9, 2016) - Organizers for the 2016 BMW Dallas Marathon and the
race's primary beneficiary, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children
(TSRHC), announced today the selection of the 2016 Junior Race Director and
Patient Champions that will serve as ambassadors on race day.
2016 Junior Race Director Jax Brown will help represent the hospital's
thousands of patients on BMW Dallas Marathon race day, allowing
participants, partners and spectators to understand how TSRHC benefits from
the support of the Dallas Marathon.

"Over the last 19 years, our partnership with Texas Scottish Rite Hospital
for Children has been nothing short of spectacular," said Paul Lambert,
president of the BMW Dallas Marathon. "We know it is deeply inspiring for
our participants to run for a cause that is bigger than themselves, and
look forward to welcoming thousands of participants to Dallas this December
to see the amazing work that Scottish Rite can do."
16-year-old Jax Brown of Lake Dallas, Texas, first came to TSRHC last year
requiring surgery for a loose patella, an injury she received while playing
soccer. Medically categorized as a patellofemoral disorder, this type of
injury is most commonly seen in runners and soccer players. After seeing
TSRHC orthopedic specialists and hard work during physical therapy, Jax has
made a full recovery from surgery and is back to competing with her
teammates at Lake Dallas High School. After graduation, Brown hopes to
pursue a degree in sports medicine at Texas A&M University.

board of directors has done for our patients since the beginning of this
partnership in 1997," said Bob Walker, president and CEO of TSRHC. "Jax
embodies that unbridled enthusiasm that is so important in creating good
health and fitness habits, and we are honored to have her lead the
ceremonies for what will certainly be another memorable event."
Patient Champions for the 2016 BMW Dallas Marathon also include:
- Omar, 11, of Dallas is currently learning to walk again with the help
of TSRHC staff after he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and underwent
a left leg above-the-knee amputation
- James and Matthew, two fun loving 13-year-old twins living in Plano,
Tex., received treatment for cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder,
respectively, at TSRHC. Both will cheer on their dad and step mom,
who are running on 2016 BMW Dallas Marathon race day
- Grace, 14, of Lucas, Tex., was treated for scoliosis and this summer
served as a junior volunteer at TSRHC
- Gianna, 7, of Hurst, Tex., is a talented bassist in the Suzuki Strings
program, came to TSRHC at just two weeks old with a congenital hand
difference
