Press Release - Edinburgh Marathon - 10/3/13

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Secrets to Success For Runners Are Set to be Revealed By
Top Fitness Experts At A Free Workshop

Organisers of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival are holding the session to
inspire people to sign up for Scotland's biggest running weekend as well as
lend some vital advice to those already in training for the races. The
Edinburgh Marathon on May 25 2014 will kick off a spectacular sporting year
for Scotland which includes the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in July and
the Ryder Cup in Gleneagles in September.

Runners of all abilities are invited to sign up for the Edinburgh Marathon
Festival workshop on October 24 at Meadowbank Sports Centre, 139 London
Road, Edinburgh from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Experts will be on hand offering
advice on everything from training plans to nutrition, injury prevention to
motivational techniques to help get people in the best possible shape as
they work towards longer distances.

Edinburgh Marathon Festival race director, Neil Kilgour, said: "Come and be
inspired.

"We're proud that runners from more than 100 countries will take part in
the Edinburgh Marathon Festival on May 24 and 25 starting in the heart of
Scotland's capital. For every single runner, their big day will mark the
culmination of months of training and hard work. We'd like to help people
towards that magical moment when they cross that finish line. Getting
together with fellow runners and fitness experts is a great way to get race
ready."

Alex McEwan, endurance coach with Edinburgh Athletic club, will lead
coaching sessions with individually designed training schedules to suit
every Edinburgh Marathon Festival race distance from the 5K to the 10K, the
half marathon to the full 26.2 miles. Sarah Dempster, a nutritionist and
personal trainer with Edinburgh Leisure, will be on hand with plenty of
advice on the best things to eat to fuel a race performance to be proud of
and experts from our retail partner, Run and Become, will share their
knowledge and experience on all things running.

And cancer survivor David Hilton who has run in the Edinburgh Marathon
Festival twice will talk about the difference that Macmillan Cancer Support
makes to people's lives. David of Glenrothes, Fife was just 17 when he was
diagnosed with a rare brain tumour. He and his family describe the charity
as a lifeline during tough months of treatment. Today, fully recovered,
David, now 21, is a student at Dundee University.

David said: "During the race there were highs and lows, just like my cancer
treatment. But when the finish was in sight I knew I could make it, just
like I could beat cancer. I'll never forget the support Macmillan Cancer
Support gave me when I was ill."

Runners wishing to attend must book in advance as the event was a sell out
last year. Tickets are issued on a first come first served basis. A maximum
of four tickets per person are available and runners are advised to attend
the training workshop dressed ready to run.
