                  Wilfred Kigen goes for a hat-trick at 
                  Dresdner Kleinwort Frankfurt Marathon

Organisers of the 26th Dresdner Kleinwort Frankfurt Marathon announced the 
signing of Wilfred Kigen already five months before their race, showing 
their determination to further develop the event. The defending champion 
from Kenya will go for a hattrick on 28th October, which would be a unique 
achievement in the history of the traditional race. The 32 year-old also 
holds the course record of 2:08:29 which he ran in 2005. Just recently 
Wilfred Kigen has improved his personal best to 2:07:33 when he took second 
in Hamburg, beaten by just one second. 

"The signing of Wilfred is a superb start for us this year. It will give 
our race a big boost", said Race Director Jo Schindler. Last year Wilfred 
Kigen clocked 2:09:06, which is the second fastest winning time of 
Germany's oldest city marathon. One of his fellow countrymen he beat in 
that race will come back to Frankfurt as well: Peter Kiprotich finished 
fourth in 2006 with 2:10:57.

Earlier Jo Schindler had proudly announced a five year deal with a new 
title sponsor, Dresdner Kleinwort. A bank's involvement fits perfect for 
Schindler and his team since Frankfurt is Germany's financial capital. With 
more financial power than before the Dresdner Kleinwort Frankfurt Marathon 
should continue his recent fine development regarding elite running and 
mass participation.

Last year organisers registered a record entry of 17,500 athletes, who 
competed in various events. Among them were more than 11,000 marathon 
runners. There is good news for non-elite runners this year as well: The 
time limit to reach the unique finish inside festival hall will be extended 
by one hour. That means that marathon runners have 6.5 hours to cover the 
classical distance. This was possible due to the skipping of the inline 
skating event, which had poor entry figures recently.
