Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2021
See You Next Year at the Starting Line on 24 January
HONG KONG (13 May 2020) - Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association and
Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited announced today that the
Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2021 will take place on Sunday, 24
January and retains the World Athletics Gold Label Road Race status.
The Organiser is actively preparing for the race next year and has reserved
guaranteed entry for the same distance race for 2020 participants. After a
year of suspension, the Organiser looks forward to starting off the race
with all runners and injecting positivity into our society through this
annual international sporting event. Further details and registration
arrangement will be announced in due course.
The Organiser calls for concerted effort from the community to stay strong
and fit while continuing to combat COVID-19. See you all at the starting
line - Together we run further.
Ms. Christy Yiu Kit-ching, Hong Kong's elite runner, is excited about the
race, "Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon is an important platform for
nurturing elite runners and promoting long-distance running. The Standard
Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2021 on 24 January is one of my targets to
achieve the entry standard for the Tokyo Olympics. Despite the cancellation
of the Hong Kong Marathon this year due to the pandemic, I believe every
runner's efforts will pay off. Let's get well prepared to challenge the
Marathon next year!"
Mr. Wong Wan Chun, Hong Kong marathon record holder, expressed, "We, as
local athletes, all look forward to the Standard Chartered Hong Kong
Marathon every year as it provides an opportunity for us to challenge
ourselves and reach higher limits. This year, I set a
one-hour-and-fiveminute half marathon target for myself. Look forward to
creating new PBs with you all at the Marathon on 24 January next year!"
