Press Release - IAAF - Women's Half Marathon World Record - 4/8/14

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

IAAF Ratifies The World Female Record in
Half Marathon Achieves in the eDreams Mitja Barcelona

The International Association of Athletics Federations
Ratifies the Women's World Record of Half Marathon, Achieved
by the Kenyan Florence Kiplagat Last February in Barcelona.

Barcelona 04/08/2014 - The IAAF, the main authority figure of world
athletics, has ratified the women's world record in a half marathon,
achieved by the athlete Florence Kiplagat, last February 16th in the
eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona.

The IAAF, leaded by the Senegalese Lamine Diack, joins all the athletic
federations in the world and it's the authority to recognize the athletic
world records in all disciplines. Since today, the world records in the
distances of 20 km and Half Marathon are regulated.

These new records replace those achieved in 2011 by the Kenyan Mary Keitany
in Ras Al Khaimah (United Arab Emirates):

- New world record in the women's 20km: 01:01:56, by Florence Kiplagat
(eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona).

- New world record in the women's Half Marathon: 1:05:12, by Florence
Kiplagat (eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona).

You can check these records at the official website of the IAAF:

kiplagat

This world record is the result of years of work and a sports strategy
carried out by the team formed by the professional organizers of the race,
the Catalan company RPM Racing, and the Barcelona City Council. This is an
incentive to attract more local people and foreign participants in the
future and this fact will also increase the women's participation in the
race.

Since now, Florence Kiplagat and Barcelona become part of the history of
Athletics and the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona consolidates as one of
the most important half marathons.
