Press Release - Lake Tahoe Marathon - 10/1/08

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TORRES WINS LAKE TAHOE MARATHON FOR THE THIRD TIME

(SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.)- Tony Torres, of Lake Arrowhead, California, did
what no other runner has ever done before at the Lake Tahoe Marathon; he
won the 26.2-mile race for the third consecutive year, claiming his
three-peat title September 28.

Torres' time was also his best ever at the event, in its 13th year, with a
time of 2 hours, 40 minutes and 32 seconds. Last year, he ran 2:44:55 and a
2:43:37 in 2006. Reno's Lynyrd Skynrod, who won the event's Tahoe Triple in
2007 (three marathons in three consecutive days), proved formidable
competition for Torres and kept a blistering pace until mile 13 when Torres
passed him halfway up the dreaded 1.55-mile "Hill from Hell" at D.L. Bliss
State Park on the West Shore.

Reno's Kristi Arthur won her second Lake Tahoe Marathon with a time of
3:05:19 (her first in 2005), and crossed the finish line before Torres in
the race's "Battle of the Sexes," where women receive a 30-minute head
start.

Another coup for the Lake Tahoe Marathon was the 72-Mile Bike Race held
September 27, when 11 of the event's cyclists broke the previous record of
3 hours, 1 minute, with Tahoe City's Nathan Freed winning the event in 2
hours 59.08 seconds.

In the Tahoe 72.2 Mile Ultra Marathon, Randy Van Dusen of Roseville,
California took home first with a time of 13 hours, 17 minutes and 46
seconds. Participants started at midnight on Sunday and then joined the
regular marathoners at 8:30 a.m. Chuck Engle, of Dublin, California, won
the Tahoe Triple with a final time of 9:14:27. Peter Lubbers, of Oregon
House, California, won the Tahoe Super Triple at 20:32:23, which is 26.2
miles the first day, 26.2 miles the second and 72.2 miles the third.

According to Race Director Les Wright, who coordinates all the events that
make up Lake Tahoe Marathon Race Week, the new record in the bike and the
three-peat of the marathon speak to the caliber of athletes that the
overall event is attracting. Exceptional athletes, as well as recreational
participants, are regularly participating.
