(Reno, NEV September 12, 2006) – Time Passages... Unlike many contemporary
artists, the songs of Al Stewart don't feel or sound like they come with an
expiration date. His works exist outside of any time frame. Excitedly, the
Nevada Wide Open Marathon de Mayo welcomes this legend as the headliner for
the Marathon de Mayo Finale Concert at the Sands Regency on the Coors Light
stage on May 6, 2007. Admission is free. Beginning at 12 noon the Sands
Regency will offer VIP meet & greet, food and fun with the 'Evening with Al
Stewart' concert beginning around 5 p.m. after the Nevada Wide Open
Marathon de Mayo Awards Ceremony.
Almost 40 years since his first album was released, Steward's career has
spanned different genres from folk to classic rock to today's alternative.
For a singer and songwriter whose work is suffused with history and detail,
Stewart follows no creative timetable.
"Al Stewart just recorded his eighteenth album and his voice and guitar
playing are better than ever. His new CD, A Beach Full of Shells, has been
critically praised and he is on a tour of Europe to promote this new CD,"
said Douglas Collins, executive producer of the Marathon de Mayo. "At the
concert, you will hear Al's mega hits Time Passages, Year of the Cat, On
the Border, and more. Al is rock & roll's troubadour."
It's been 10 years since his last US CD of new material, almost 30 years
since his "Year of the Cat" single and album became unforgettable
international hits. Stewart seems not afraid of time and its passages.
Stewart's newest CD, A Beach Full of Shells, is musical settings that
encompass electric folk-rock and acoustic ballads, colorful dabs of
classical and Eastern music, and even a touch of Little Richard-style piano
pounding, are as varied and imaginative as Al's subject matters. The CD's
producer, Laurence Juber, formerly of Paul McCartney's Wings, has enhanced
Al's elegant Scottish drawl, nimble acoustic guitar-work and keyboards with
his own Grammy-winning guitar playing, string arrangements and percussion
and a flexible rhythm section.
"We are so proud to bring Al Stewart to the closing event of our Marathon
weekend," Collins added. "We've worked with him before and he is a jewel of
an entertainer, very gracious and a very talented musician."
