37th MCM Weekend Spurs Excitement in Nation's Capital Marathon Events on
Oct. 25-28 are Hosted in Arlington, VA and Washington, D.C.
QUANTICO, VA (Oct. 17, 2012) - The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) is hosting
an exhilarating weekend of events from Thursday, Oct. 25 through Sunday,
Oct. 28 in Arlington, VA and Washington, D.C. The MCM will welcome the
largest number of participants to date with 43,600 registered to run the
MCM, MCM10K and Healthy Kids Fun Run, which are sold out events.
Thursday, Oct. 25

More than 100,000 will visit the Health & Fitness Expo presented by GE over
three days at the DC Armory. Expo visitors will enjoy more than 200
exhibitors and interactive displays with free massages, food sampling,
entertainment and access to running industry experts. MCM and MCM10K
participants will pick up race-day materials and participant shirts at the
Expo. Free parking is available in lot #3 outside the Expo or via the
orange/blue Metro lines to the Stadium/Armory station.

First Timers Pep Rally

Long recognized as the best beginner marathon, the MCM will celebrate more
than 11,000 first-time participants at the First Timers Pep Rally at the
Hyatt. The event is open to 1,000 first time marathoners who have
pre-purchased tickets. A panel of experts will be available to answer
questions, while the beginner marathoners are treated to live
entertainment, giveaways and the commemorative first timer's pin.
Saturday, Oct. 27
MCM Runners bRUNch
National Mall to Marine Corps War Memorial Smithsonian Metro
9 a.m. to Noon
New this year, 200 runners who have pre-registered for the Runners bRUNch
will get a preview of the MCM finish while enjoying a 5K training run and
catered meal at the MCM VIP tent. The 3.1 mile bRUNch begins on the
National Mall at 9 a.m. and finishes at the Marine Corps War Memorial - the
site of the iconic MCM finish. While feasting adjacent to the finish line,
participants will receive event-day tips and talk strategy with Bart Yasso,
Chief Running Officer for "Runners World" magazine. Participants will also
receive a commemorative MCM coin from Warrior Chip.
Healthy Kids Fun Run
Pentagon North parking lot
Arlington, VA
9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
An expanded field of 3,600 runners between the ages 5 to 12 will run
one-mile at the Healthy Kids Fun Run the day before the MCM. Individual
kids and entire school groups will run in six waves in the North Pentagon
parking lot and enjoy Camp Miles, the free outdoor festival that includes
interactive games, activities and entertainment for the entire family.
MCM Runners Conference
Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill
1 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
MCM runners have pre-registered for two 60-minute sessions at the Runners
Conference that includes 2012 marathon Olympian Shalane Flanagan and
running industry experts to share insights and anecdotes while providing
running advice to MCM participants. The Runners Conference includes the
"Introduction to the MCM" and the "First Timers" session. Chas Henry will
moderate the MCM Runners Conference panels and facilitate Q&A. Henry served
in the Marine Corps and is a combat-decorated veteran of the 1991 Gulf War.
He is a broadcaster at Washington, D.C.'s radio station, All News 99.1

Carbo Dining In

In the spirit of traditional military dinners called the "Dining-In," the
MCM is hosting the annual pasta event for 900 runners, their families and
friends. The Allied Forces Foundation Pipes and Drums and USO-style group,
"United We Sing" will perform with Featured speaker is Amby Burfoot,
Editor-at-Large of "Runners World" magazine.
Sunday, Oct. 28
Wheelchair/Hand Cycle Start
Route 110, Arlington, VA
Between Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon
7:40 a.m. start
2012 Marathon Olympian Shalane Flanagan will fire the starting pistol for
more than 140 wheelchair and hand cycle participants who begin at 7:40
a.m., just prior to the MCM. Many of the participants are war-wounded
service members injured in Iraq and Afghanistan.
MCM10K
12th Street and Madison Drive, on the National Mall
Washington, D.C.
7:55 a.m. start
The MCM10K includes a new start time of 7:55 a.m. and a new start location
at 12th and Madison between the National Museum of American History and the
Natural History Museum on the National Mall. Laura Lane, president of
Global Public Affairs for UPS, will start and run the MCM10K with 10,000
fellow runners ages 10 and up. The 6.2 mile run will cross over the Potomac
via the 14th Street bridge and run throughout Crystal City and on the North
side of the Pentagon to the finish at the Marine Corps War Memorial.
MCM Start

7:55 a.m. official start
Rob Riggle, actor, comedian and U.S. Marine Reservist will start the 37th
MCM that will include a flyover of Marine aviators and two MV-22B Ospreys.
The Star-Spangled Banner will be performed by vocalists of "United We
Sing," and the sonic boom of the 105mm Howitzer will sound the start as
runners are launched on their 26.2 mile journey through Arlington, VA and
the nation's capital.
MCM Finish Festival
Rosslyn, VA
8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
After receiving their finisher's medal from a U.S. Marine, MCM and MCM10K
participants will proceed to the Finish Festival in Rosslyn. Spectators can
"check their runner" at the HP booth while runners receive free massages,
and can purchase finisher items at the Brooks Finisher Store. Runners will
meet their biggest supporters at Family Link-Up and can enjoy refreshment
at the Michelob Ultra beer garden and Rosslyn's Restaurant Row. The Marine
Corps Base Quantico Party Band and the Mike Corrado Band will perform live
on the Arlington Stage. Runners can claim their baggage at the fleet of UPS
trucks parked on Wilson Blvd. between Lynn and Kent Streets.
