Press Release - Miami Marathon - 1/12/16

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

                     MIAMI MARATHON CHANGES COURSE WITH
                       VENETIAN CAUSEWAY CONSTRUCTION

January 24 race will include west and eastbound sides of the MacArthur
Causeway

MIAMI, Fl. - For the first time in Miami Marathon history, this year's
International field of participants will embark on a new course as
construction on the Venetian Causeway continues.

The first 13 years that the Marathon was contested, runners headed East to
Miami Beach along the MacArthur Causeway, traversing once over a bridge
that is often referred to as one of Miami's icons and then a second bridge
connecting to South Beach. They returned to the mainland along the nearby
Venetian Causeway, the first pathway that ever connected Miami and Miami
Beach. The two roadways complimented each other, awing runners with
picturesque views and a glimpse at what makes Miami Famous.

The 2016 edition of the race, to be held at 6 a.m. January 24, the streets
of Downtown Miami, Miami Beach and Coconut Grove, will cover both MacArthur
bridges in each direction due to ongoing major construction on the
Venetian. The additional incline runs will challenge runners between miles
7 and 10.

For non-marathon participants or spectators, the following guidelines are
recommended:
  • Those wishing to enter and exit Miami Beach between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. should utilize the Julia Tuttle Causeway and be prepared for delays crossing 5th street.
  • All Miami Beach residents south of 5th Street should make alternate arrangements between 6:15 a.m. and 9 a.m.
  • Residents of Palm, Hibiscus and Star Islands will have access from the East end of the MacArthur Causeway via a single lane.
  • Residents of Fisher Island should also expect delays between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. Drivers should use the Ferry terminal entrance on the Eastbound side of the Causeway.
  • Eastbound Port of Miami Tunnel Traffic should detour onto the Downtown Miami surface roads entrance to the Port along NE 5th Street, westbound exiting Port traffic should use the tunnel.
