       Registration For the 2012 Philadelphia Marathon, Half Marathon and 
                     Rothman Institute 8k Up and Running

Registration is off to a fast start for the Philadelphia Marathon, 
happening during Race Weekend, November 16-18, 2012.

PHILADELPHIA (April 5, 2012) – Registration is off and running for the 19th 
Annual Philadelphia Marathon, Half Marathon and Rothman Institute 8K. 
Following the opening of registration on April 1, race participants have 
quickly started to register for the three races, as well as the Kids Fun 
Run. Interested participants can register online at 
www.philadelphiamarathon.com.

The Philadelphia Marathon is Sunday, November 18 and will guide race 
participants through a fast, scenic, 26.2-mile course that highlights some 
of the city's historic landmarks such as City Hall, Independence Hall, and 
Boathouse Row – starting and finishing with the Philadelphia Museum of Art 
at the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The Philadelphia Half Marathon, also on 
Sunday, November 18, will follow the same course as the first 13.1 miles of 
the Philadelphia Marathon. The Rothman Institute 8K will be held Saturday, 
November 17. 

All three races are USA Track & Field-sanctioned. Runner's World Chief 
Running Officer Bart Yasso says Philadelphia is "the best place in the 
world to finish a race. The open space, scenic landscape, and sense of 
history are unrivaled."  Last year, race participants came from all 50 
states and 40 countries, attracted to the swift, picturesque race course 
that also features more than 20 Cheer Zones. 

Race Weekend opens November 16 and ends November 18. This includes a free 
two-day Health and Fitness Expo, Friday-Saturday, November 16-17; 
carb-loaded dining options from participating restaurants throughout 
Philadelphia on Saturday, November 17; and the Kids Fun Run, a 
short-distance, non-competitive event designed for children ages 6-12 , 
also scheduled for Saturday, November 17. 

Registration is $95 for the Philadelphia Marathon; $75 for the Philadelphia 
Half Marathon; and $35 for the Rothman Institute 8K, through April 30. The 
complete entry fee schedule is as follows:

According to Philadelphia Marathon officials, 96 percent of race 
participants registered online last year, however, mail-in registration is 
also available for a $15 processing fee. Race participants can download 
forms from the official Marathon Web site, www.philadelphiamarathon.com.

Race packets are available for pick-up at the free Health and Fitness Expo, 
held in Hall A of the Pennsylvania Convention Center, 12th and Arch 
Streets, from Noon – 9:00 p.m. on Friday, November 16 and from 10:00 a.m. 
to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 17.  Marathon and Half Marathon 
registrants will receive an official long-sleeve tech jersey, race goodie 
bag and at the finish line, a finisher's medal; 8k registrants will receive 
a race goodie bag and a T-shirt. (Race packets for Saturday's 8K must be 
picked up on Friday.)

Registration for the Kids Fun Run, Saturday, November 17, is also available 
online. The entry fee in advance and on-site at the Health and Fitness Expo 
is $15. All participants receive a T-shirt, goodie bag, and finisher's 
medal, upon completion of the race.

More than 27,000 runners and over 60,000 spectators will be in 
Philadelphia, "Running's Best Host City", during Marathon Weekend – Friday, 
November 16 to Sunday, November 18. In addition Sunday's Philadelphia 
Marathon, Race Weekend offers three races – the half marathon, the Rothman 
Institute 8K, and the Kids Fun Run. Other activities to welcome runners, 
families, friends, spectators, businesses and residents include a free 
two-day Health & Fitness Expo; a free course map complete with retail 
discounts and promotions; and more than 20 spectacular cheer zones. Race 
participants pass many of Philadelphia's famous attractions on the swift 
and scenic USATF—certified course, which is a Boston qualifier.
