    Terer Returns to Men's Field as Defending Champ, Course Record Holder

Moline, IL - Kiplangat Philemon Terer (Kenya) returns to defend his men's 
overall title and course record at the 2014 Quad Cities Marathon, presented 
by Triumph Community Bank. The race is set for 7:30-am, Sept. 28th, at John 
Deere Commons. Terer highlights a group of 19 elite men in the full 
marathon, while five elite men have committed to the Ruhl & Ruhl Half 
Marathon.

In the 2013 race, Terer averaged 5:07/pace per mile en route to a 2:14:04 
finish time on the 26.2-mile course. He broke the old course record by 
2:25. Terer began to pull away in the 14th mile last year and put an 
exclamation point on the win with a 4:56 19th mile. His final 10k was run 
in 32:39. The QCM win was his second in 2013. He also won the Cleveland 
Marathon in 2:17:37.

Nine other international runners have posted solid results and look to 
challenge Terer.

Tesfaye Alemayehu (Ethiopia) ran a 2:13:11 as recently as 2012, when he 
placed second at Baltimore. He also was second in the 2012 California 
International Marathon in 2:17:06. This year he ran 2:20:18 at Grandma's 
(27th). His half marathon best is 1:02:33, run in Chicago in 2013.

Abraham Chelanga (Kenya) ran 2:13:24 to place seventh at this year's 
Grandma's. He also won the 2014 Summitfest Half in 1:05:17. Benjamin Metto 
(Kenya) has a marathon best of 2:13:45 from the 2012 Grandma's Marathon. 
This year he ran 2:15:31 at the Tijuana Marathon. Sammy Malakwen (Kenya) 
ran 2:15:54 at Grandma's this year for 12th. He won this year's Miami ING 
Marathon in 2:19:56.

David Tuwei (Kenya) ran 2:16:22 for 12th at this year's Houston Marathon. 
He won two marathons in 2013: Des Moines (2:17:23) and Indianapolis 
(2:16:40). Edward Tabut (Kenya) won this year's Lincoln (NE) Marathon in 
2:17:07. He added a 2:18:46 effort at this year's Grandma's. His best time 
last year was a 2:17:05 to place fifth at the Donna Marathon. George Towett 
(Kenya) placed third at the 2013 Akron Marathon with a personal best 
2:17:16. He owns a 1:02:54 half marathon personal best.

John Maina (Kenya) has a marathon best of 2:12:50 from the 2011 Grandma's 
Marathon, placing third. This year he has run a 14:34 5k and a 47:50 15k. 
Alemu Gemene (Ethiopia) has a marathon best of 2:16:23.

Four other international elites are in the field.

Zakayo Biwott (Kenya) owns a 2:22:09 personal best from 2010 in Tenero, 
SUI. Richard Kandie (Kenya) owns a 1:04:08 half marathon best. Fikadu Lemma 
(Ethiopia) ran 2:29:32 to place second at the 2013 Bermuda Marathon. Hassen 
Mohammed (Ethiopia) ran 1:05:12 at the Great Africa Run Half Marathon.

Rounding out the open elite marathon field are: Nathan Hopp (West Amana, 
IA), Tad Hulst (West Liberty, IA), Phil McNeal (Romeoville, IL), and Andrew 
Sabin (Cedar Rapids, IA).

In the master's race, the QCM welcomes back two-time winner John Piggott 
(Williamsburg, VA). He won last year's master's division in 2:42:37 and won 
in 2012 at 2:43:30. His best time last year was 2:42:23 in Tallahassee.

The full marathon course record belongs to Terer (2:14:04) from last year's 
open race. The master's course record is 2:30:52 by Alexey Korobov (Russia) 
from 2008.

Five elites entered in Ruhl & Ruhl Half men's field

Rachid Ezzounouniou (Kenya) owns the top seed time in this year's Ruhl & 
Ruhl Half Marathon with an impressive 1:01:40 half this year at El Jadida, 
Morocco.

Elly Sang (Kenya) returns to the Ruhl & Ruhl Half looking to improve on 
last year's third place (1:07:05).

Matthew Lowe (Montgomery, TX) ran 1:07:29 to place second at this year's 
Austin 3M Half Marathon.

Julius Rotich (Kenya) has a 1:11:38 recent best from the 2012 IMT Des 
Moines Half, where he placed 11th overall.

Michael Straza (Bloomington, IL) is the top master's seed. He has two 
identical 1:12:23 finishes recently at Indianapolis and Houston.

The half marathon course record belongs to Robert Wambua (Kenya) from 2012 
in 1:05:03.
