The Romanian International Marathon - Bucharest, start for health!
The Bucharest Running Club Association under the high patronage of the
Bucharest City Hall, with the support of the EU program Together since
1957, has launched the Romanian International Marathon (RIM) - Bucharest,
during a press conference held today, May 2nd 2007, at Hilton Hotel,
Bucharest.
Olympic champion Valeria Racila van Groningen, president of the
Organization Committee of RIM, Adriean Videanu, general mayor of the City
of Bucharest, Olympic champions Iolanda Balas, Gabriela Szabo and Elisabeta
Lipa, Ambassador Donato Chiarini, Chief of the European Commission in
Romania, Octavian Morariu, president of COSR, Octavian Belu, president of
ANS, Sorin Matei, president of FRA, and other personalities who support the
organization of this event in Bucharest, all participated in today's press
conference launching the Romanian International Marathon - Bucharest.
The Marathon will take place on October 21st 2007, as a cultural-sports
event. It is formed of a wide range of activities and addresses an audience
of all ages. The event will include a classic marathon, an half marathon, a
family run of 5 km designed for sport lovers, children, families an as well
in-line skaters. A Marathon Music Festival will accompany the races and
cheer up the old center of the city.
Furthermore, the RIM represents an excellent occasion to promote the image
of Bucharest as a capital city and sports and tourist destination.
As an athlete, I encourage sports for everybody. It develops physical and
mental qualities like fair-play, team spirit, solidarity. On top of
everything, I'm happy because these events create the environment where
great future champions come from. So, welcome to the Bucharest Romanian
