Twin Cities In Motion Names 2016 College Scholarship Winners
Waconia's Carissa Dock and Holy Family's Joe Esenther Earn $5,000
Scholarships
St. Paul, Minn. - May 19, 2016 - Twin Cities In Motion, the organizer of
the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon and year-round running events in
Minneapolis and St. Paul, has awarded Carissa Dock of Waconia High School
and Joe Esenther of Holy Family Catholic High School its 2016 Twin Cities
In Motion College Scholarships.
Dock and Esenther were chosen from a field of more than 120 applicants,
based on the strength of their running accomplishments, academic
performance, and community service. In addition, candidates were asked to
write a personal essay. This year marks the 16th year that Twin Cities In
Motion has awarded scholarships to the metro area's most impressive male
and female distance running scholar-athletes.
"It's an honor for Twin Cities In Motion to present scholarships to Carissa
and Joe," Twin Cities In Motion Executive Director Virginia Brophy Achman
said. "They stand out from a large, strong group of applicants with their
remarkable talents and demonstrated commitment to the community. We are
proud to invest in high school students in our community and support their
hopes and dreams."
Dock set herself apart from TCM Scholarship nominees thanks to a 4.0 GPA,
510 hours of community service and volunteer work, and proven leadership
skills as a team captain of her cross country and track and field teams. A
talented dancer, she has performed in the Nutcracker with a professional
dance company. Dock, an All-American track and field athlete at both USATF
and AAU Junior Olympics, plans to attend the University of Minnesota and
pursue degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Spanish, with a goal of
becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
Esenther distinguished himself among TCM Scholarship applicants thanks to a
3.8 GPA, more than 450 hours of community service and volunteer work, and
proven leadership skills as a team captain of his cross country team.
Fascinated by photography from the age of three, he is the cofounder of
Midwestern Life Photography. Esenther, a three-time State Cross Country
Meet qualifier, plans to major in Engineering and Photography at Montana
State University.
Twin Cities In Motion has awarded more than $120,000 in college
scholarships since the inception of the TCM College Scholarship Program.
The Twin Cities In Motion College Scholarship Program is one of TCM's
community outreach initiatives that include the Medtronic TC Kids Marathon,
a community-wide effort that inspires healthy lifestyles among children,
and the the High School Running Shoe Program, which provides running shoes to
high school cross country and track athletes in need.
