FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon Regular Registration Deadline -
September 15
(Victoria, BC - September 11, 2014) The regular registration deadline for
the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon is just days away - on September 15.
To date, over 7,200 registrations have been received for all four events -
the Marathon, Half Marathon, 8K Road Race and the Thrifty Foods Kids Run.
It is expected that there will be an increase in registrations over the
next few days before the late registration fees apply.
All four races have been capped - the Marathon is capped at 2,100; Half
Marathon at 5,600; 8K Road Race at 3,500 and the Thrifty Foods Kids Run at
1,300. There are only 220 spots left in the Marathon so participants are
encouraged to register to avoid disappointment.
"Whether it is your first time to participate in one of the events or your
100th, there is still time to register and prepare your body and mind for
race day," says Cathy Noel, General Manager of the GoodLife Fitness
Victoria Marathon. "The 35th Annual Event is a tremendous milestone for the
organizing committee and we challenge everyone - first timers and seasoned
runners / walkers to celebrate and take part in the Anniversary year of the
marathon. You can also sign up to volunteer and be part of the crew of
1,600 people."
The regular marathon entry fee is $110. The deadline also applies to the
Half Marathon and the 8K Road Race where the fees are $85 and $45. After
September 15 late registration fees will apply - $130 for the Marathon, $95
for the Half Marathon and $50 for the 8K Road Race. The entry fee for the
Thrifty Foods Kids Run remains at $17 until October 11.
For the sixth year in a row the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon will
host the BC Marathon Championships. The total prize purse for the Marathon
and Half Marathon is $46,650, with $4,000 each going to the top male and
female Marathoner, and a $5,000 bonus for a new men's or women's Marathon
course record. The Men's course record was set in 2013 by Lamech Mokono in
2:13:42 and the Women's by Lucy Njeri in 2011 (2:37:56). Natasha Fraser
set a new Women's Half Marathon record in 2012 (1:14:06). The Men's Half
Marathon record is held by Jon Brown (2002 - 1:02:32). Gary Barber holds
the Men's 8K course record (1989 - 23:23) and Ulla Marquette holds the
Women's record (1991 - 26:24). Two World Records have also been set in
Victoria. Gwen McFarlan in 2010 in the W75-79 (4:02:27); and Betty Jean
McHugh in the W80-99 in 2008 (4:35:52).
