The Bayshore Marathon in Traverse City, Michigan (May 24, 2003) has 
officially reached its cap of 1000 runners for the marathon.  Their is no
cap on the Bayshore 10K.  After two years of an explosive number of 
entries, the Bayshore Organizing Committee decided to create the cap to 
insure the safety and integrity of the race. 
 
"As an out and back race there is likely a limit to the numbers of entries 
we can accept in the future based on the size of our road.  Our goal has 
never focused on dollars or numbers, just to be the best small town 
marathon we can be", says 2003 Race Director Lou Wojtowicz.  "We will 
evaluate this process after this year's race and make a decision to raise 
or lower the cap for the 2004 race".  
 
Runners were advised of the cap in the application released in January and 
distributed mailed throughout the Midwest. Likewise, the 
bayshoremarathon.org web site posted the number of entries to-date every 
two weeks throughout the spring.  
 
"Turning away entries is not the fun part of the job", says Lou Wojtowicz, 
"but we would be throwing our goals and future credibility away if we made 
the cap irrelevant".  
 
This will be the 21st running of the Bayshore Marathon & 10K with the 
marathon beginning at 7:00am and the 10K at 8:00.  There is $4000 in prize 
money available to the winners of the marathon depending on their finishing 
time and breaking the course record.  Both the marathon and 10K run along 
the shores of East Grand Traverse Bay in Traverse City.
