CHAMPAIGN, IL and BOSTON, MA - April 12, 2006: Marathon & Beyond magazine
announced the release of a special edition, Boston Marathon & Beyond,
commemorating next Monday's 110th running of the Boston Marathon. The
announcement was made by Jan Colarusso Seeley, Marathon & Beyond publisher,
in conjunction with the Boston Athletic Association and adidas, presenting
sponsor of the book.

"We hail the launch of Boston Marathon & Beyond at this year's Boston
Marathon. This collaboration with Marathon & Beyond has resulted in a truly
unique book, which will be valued by runners and fans of the Boston
Marathon alike," says Guy Morse, executive director of the Boston Athletic
Association, which has officially licensed the book.

The book, edited by noted running author and Marathon & Beyond editor
Richard Benyo, contains articles by Hal Higdon, Roger Robinson, Kathrine
Switzer, Tom Derderian, John J. Kelley, and others. The book also features
a painting by acclaimed sports artist Andy Yelenak, reproduced across a
unique double gatefold cover. "The rich, long-running history of the
Boston Marathon provides a deep well from which all runners can draw
inspiration. This project allowed us to work at the well and gain a deeper
appreciation of the many runners who contributed to the sport's
continuation through three different centuries," says Benyo.

Speaking for the presenting sponsor, adidas brand marketing manager Ashley
Williams, says, "We're delighted to align with other leaders in this sport
like the B.A.A. and Marathon & Beyond magazine. We feel it's another way to
connect our passion for running with the passionate runners of this sport.
Our product innovations are inseparably linked to a runner's aspirations,
and the inspirational stories in this book reflect that sense."

Featured articles in the commemorative book include
·	"The Lure-and Lore-of Boston" by Richard Benyo (a not-so-short
history of Boston and why it is marathon's Mecca)
·	"The Genesis of Boston" by Tom Derderian (the first Boston
Marathon-how it came to be and what transpired in the first race)
·	"Boston Lite" by Scott Hubbard (each Boston Marathon in 25
words or less)
·	"The 'Mayor' of Boston" by Richard Benyo (Johnny Kelley, the
Elder, the grand master of Boston came up the hard way)
·	"The Deed is Done" by John J. Kelley (John J. Kelley's 1957
win at Boston)
·	"Masters at Boston" by Roger Robinson (the pioneering efforts
of masters runners at Boston)
·	"Fast Women" by Kathrine Switzer (from out of the bushes to
the lead pack: a history)
·	"The Epiphany" by Tito Morales (the spirit of Boston waits to
infuse the first-timer)
·	"The Top 10 Bostons" (a stellar panel of 22 picks the 10 best
Bostons)
·	"'Duel in the Sun' Revisited" by Hal Higdon (uncut, long version
of Higdon's feature on Salazar and Beardsley from his book,
Boston: A Century of Running. Half of this epic article appears in
the special issue, the balance to appear in the May/June 2006 issue
of Marathon & Beyond.)

Reflecting on her contribution to the book, Switzer remarks, "As I began
writing the feature on women at Boston for the book, it occurred to me that
I actually knew personally every woman winner in the history of the race.
As I began telling their stories and our evolving sports history, I also
began reliving a lot of my own life, which of course is so closely linked
to the great annual Boston Marathon. It was a tremendous experience."

Commenting on his view of the book, Higdon says, "I like to think of
Marathon & Beyond as 'The Little Magazine That Could.' It's nice to still
have a running publication that is just a little bit different and a little
bit off the wall. Boston Marathon & Beyond is merely the latest example of
the respect that Publisher Jan Seeley and Editor Rich Benyo have for our
sport."

Another contributor and former Boston masters record holder, Robinson
observes, "Masters runners are some of the greatest heroes in the human
drama of Boston-think of both Johnny Kelleys, Miki Gorman, or John
Campbell-but their story has never been told before."

Boston Marathon & Beyond also features a gallery of current and archival
photos from the collections of Ed Kozloff, Jeff Johnson,
Victah/www.PhotoRun.net, and the B.A.A.

Boston Marathon & Beyond is being distributed to all 2006 Boston Marathon
race entrants, along with Marathon & Beyond subscribers. In addition, it
will be available for purchase by past Boston Marathon entrants and through
bookstores and retail running stores.
