MAUI MARATHON IN SEARCH OF SWEETHEARTS
Race To Offer Two-for-One Entry for Valentine’s Day
Kaanapali, Maui, HI (February 1, 2006) – What better way is there to
profess your undying love than by giving your sweetheart the gift of a
26.2-mile run? Valentine’s Day couples can do just that by registering for
the Maui Marathon and receiving two entries for the price of one, announced
Maui Marathon race officials today.
Scheduled for September 17, 2006, the 36th Maui Marathon is offering one
free entry with a paid marathon entry if they are mailed or faxed together
by Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2006. The free entry can be used for the
full marathon, half marathon or Maui Tacos 5K.
Considered to be one of the most romantic and alluring locales in the
world, Maui is a top destination for weddings and honeymoons. "Every year
we have race participants who are also on Maui to get married," said Bob
Craver, race director. "It is certainly a memorable way to start a lifetime
together."
The picturesque point-to-point Maui Marathon course starts in Kahului, runs
for 17 miles along the cobalt blue Pacific Ocean and through the historic
whaling village of Lahaina before finishing at Whalers Village in
Kaanapali. The Maui Half Marathon starts and finishes at the marathon
finish line in Kaanapali. Along the way, runners and walkers are treated to
the sights and sounds of hula dancers, Taiko drummers and the pounding
surf.
Couples do not have to be committed to each other in the long stretch to
qualify for the special two-for-one offer. “Your Valentine can be a
running partner, relative or a friend,” said Craver. The promotional rules
state that as long as the paying party enters the full marathon and the
entries are mailed together and postmarked by February 14, 2006, the
Valentine runs for free. Other discounts do not apply.
