"Not ready for the big-time yet" (about: 2000)

Knowing this was the inaugural race, I didn't go in with high expectations. Nonetheless, there's not a lot to recommend about it. Start and finish areas were poorly done: little food/refreshments, no water, few booths or activities of interest. Cheapo finisher's 'medal' -- a stamped dog tag. ChampionChip timing was promoted but not used. Course was okay but nothing to get excited about. Generally, as a race it was adequate; if you want more than to pound ground for 26.2, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a marathon in Colorado in the fall, you'd be better off running Boulder Backroads.

"Great Course, Well Organized, Low Hype" (about: 2000)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

I ran yesterday and loved the course, thought that Chuck T. did a wonderful job of organizing in terms of police support, etc. A few wrinkles such as not much expo before or after, and no GU station at Mile 17 as advertised, but overall a great race. Crowd support was sparse compared to a major race like Chicago but very enthusiastic. I highly recommend this race. The altitude might give sea elevation people problems but since I live and train near Denver I had no problem. I did not find the course to be hilly at all. I would characterize it as flat.

"The course provides a nice tour of Denver." (about: 1999)

For a first time race, this went very well. I enjoyed touring Denver Parks on the race course. The course is a little hilly in the middle, so be prepared (I wasn't!). Spectators were few but vocal, luckily I train mostly alone so I was right at home along the course. The people manning the water stops were great but I could have used more food at the finish. This race has great potential and if it can keep going I think it will become one of the great Big City Marathons. Chuck T. did a great job for the first race.
Finally, be prepared for the high altitude, it is tougher than racing in Chicago!
