"Finished yesterday, excellent course" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 5 The inaugural Baltimore Marathon was a smashing success. The course is tougher than NYC or the Marine Corps (no surprise there), these are the only other two I've run. As with all beginning marathons, there are some bumps to be worked out with food in the higher miles (bagels, please). I encourage anyone that loves city races - this is the one for you. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 5 The course was a bit challenging with hills.The 70+ degree temperature was nasty! Us mid-packers had to dodge the occasional angry motorist who had tired of waiting for the road to reopen. The Baltimore Police did an admirable job of safeguarding the runners! | |

"A stellar inaugural effort!" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This event was much bigger and better than I had even anticipated. A first-rate, professional job for an inaugural marathon. I particularly appreciate the 8-hour limit and the efforts to make this a true community marathon from the get-go. Inclusive, friendly, interesting course, lots of amenities. The only thing I'd recommend working on for next year is to perhaps get the community more involved in the marathon by continuing to encourage local spectators and perhaps invite restaurants, civic groups, and cheer squads to come out to support the runners. The gorgeous weather on the first running (though hot for October) was a nice bonus! If you enjoy destination marathons and haven't visited Baltimore yet, put this one on your 2002 calendar. | |

"Let's call Baltimore difficult." (about: 2001)
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 The fans were great, they were everywhere and very vocal. It was A beautiful day. The course was tough, first four miles were flat, the last four miles slightly down hill and rolling hills over the rest and A few more than rolling. It was well organized for the first one. "Difficult course, little medical help, great fans" (General Comments)
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 5 The hills on this course have been grossly underestimated. Extremely hilly and difficult, all the way to the difficult hill at mile 21 that seems to never end. The strangest part of this marathon is that virtually no food is offered on the course. Sugar wafers are offered before the 7 mile marker, but no bagels, bananas, or cookies are offered elsewhere. Gu is offered at mile 18, but with a course this difficult, mile 18 is much too late for replenishment, and Gu is really more of a liquid replenishment when taken with water. Some sort of food, especially bananas would be of help. I saw many good runners overcome by heat and electrolyte loss. This is a very difficult race and the hills should be taken very seriously. It was difficult to find medical personnel to help with runners overcome by the conditions, and the route is not very scenic. The spectators, however, are full of spirit and very involved in the event. | |

"Balitmore will shine Saturday" (General Comments)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Baltimore will shine this Saturday. The weather is going to be perfect and history will be made. SuperBowl Champs, World boxing title and now a World Class Marathon. I will be the happiest man alive growing stronger with each stride. STAND TALL BALTIMORE! |
