COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 If you are looking for an exceptionally well organized race that will challenge your marathon skills, then this is the race for you. I loved the hills! The hill around miles 14-17 was a challenge, as I usually hit my wall at 16, but the scenery was great. I especially loved the wooded decline. Additionally, the out-and-back portion tests your mental toughness, as it can be windy and seems to go on forever. This is a great place to make up some time. Likewise the hill around mile 24 was a great final test. The finishers chute was well run and efficient, and was not confusing. If you were lucky enough to attend the VIP tent following the race, it did not disappoint, as the volunteers were great and the chow hit the spot. This is a superb race and I look forward to next year. A crisp salute to the Chicks in Charge (CIC) - race directors Geneva and Gina - for putting together a great marathon. I'll be back - and keep the medal big! | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 4 My heart goes out to the family of the young man who died. What a tragedy. To echo previous comments - walkers, please start when and where you are supposed to start. I was prepared for the hills in the middle, but what's with those two hills at 23 and 25? That was a tough place for those. I could have used some water in the recovery area, but the chocolate milk was a nice touch. All in all, a good run. Thanks to the race organizers, volunteers and spectators. One downer - the Wyndom Hotel promised late checkout when I registered, but reneged when I got there. So if you need that you will probably want to stay somewhere else. It made for a more uncomfortable 6-hour ride home. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 This was my second half marathon. It was a blast. I trained for this one. The volunteers was so wonderful. I loved the kids that passed out water - so sweet. The singing and cheering was a welcome sight. So many times I was exhausted and the cheer-leading fans got me going again. One lady stood at the bottom of a hill and said, "It's downhill; pick it up!" I started running. Awesome. My only complaint is that half marathoners are people too. :) When we came in (half marathoners), only the marathoners' names were called. People cheered them in at the finish line and not us. The rest of the time we were cheered on as well. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 The Little Rock Marathon was a wonderful experience. I absolutely loved the challenging course and the spectators cheered me on like I was winning the race. Race organizers did a fantastic job with the expo, pasta dinner and post-race party. The food was good and camaraderie among the runners was well worth the admission. I also applaud race organizers for maintaining a wonderful race website. I love the fact that I can watch the race finish and see myself crossing the line to Bart Yasso's call over and over again. I left Little Rock with nothing but positive feelings about the race as well as the city. Businesses and the people of Little Rock really seem to be embracing this event. I can't wait to come back. This race is also a great way to escape a northern climate for a few days. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Well-organized race, tough course; the hill from mile 14 to 16 pretty much did me in. Tip to race organizers: lose the blankity-blank huge medal! The thing is an embarrassment; I hid it behind my race number as soon as they hung it around my neck. The "bigger medal every year" race is a fool's race; the size of the thing is almost reason enough not to run this otherwise-pleasant race. | |

"killer hills but a great course" (about: 2008)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 My first real hills. Not just one or two or three, but lots of ups and downs with a few major hills. Still the course was quite pretty. The volunteers were first class and fluid stations well stocked. The directors can only do so much with the route - it has got to be hard to plan for a complete flat for 26 miles. They did a great job to ensure runners had plenty of drinks and food, and I was very pleased with that. Great job and a very pleasant experience despite those killer hills. :) One disappointing factor was that the time chip was not accurate, as they posted my time at the finish without subtracting my starting time. A stranger and I both finished with the same time, even though he was following a faster pacer (by an hour) than I was when we first started. | |

"Great race but room for some improvement" (about: 2008)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 4 This is a smallish marathon with a challenging (hills) course that weaves through a lot of the central Little Rock area. Things I liked this year: (1) The new start and finish at the Rivermarket - it was a little crowded at the start, but the finish "chute" was great. (2) The spectators, as always, are charming and fun (there aren't loads of them, but the ones that are there are great). (3) The aid stations along the route are well stocked and helpful. (4) Having an early start (2 hours) for people that may have trouble meeting the 6-hour deadline. (5) The "lipstick station" toward the end was cute. Things that could be improved: (1) I'm not a fast runner, so I lined up accordingly in the proper pace group. I had to dodge A LOT of walkers who did not line up properly. (2) Post-race food - I got a goody bag with nothing but powdered donuts, a chocolate bar, and a Little Debbie chocolate snack cake. Huh? (3) The "relay stations" were basically just off to the side of each relay finish line. This caused a lot of congestion a couple of times for those of us not running the relay and having to dodge those folks. (4) They were completely out of my size (and the next size up and down) of finisher's shirt by the time I finished. I paid my money and "reserved" my size. I hate when this happens because I really wanted the tech shirt. Overall, this is a nice race, but some areas need improvement. The race medal is REALLY LARGE (almost gaudily so). I think I'd rather have a smaller medal if it means I can have REAL food post-race. | |

"Hospitality Makes for Doggone Good Run" (about: 2008)

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 The hospitality of the Little Rock community was exceptional - and helped make a mediocre course a pretty doggone good run and race experience. Everything from responses to registration questions, to the pre-race expo, to volunteers, to the post-race (evening) party for runners was about as good as we have experienced. (My wife and I are working towards a half-marathon together in each of the 50 states.) The course did an awful lot of circling around and back in the early stages making a person wonder if they would ever get out of downtown - and there were a fair share of inclines - but the spectator support along the way was good and the aid stations were always well-manned and stocked. All in all, an excellent race weekend in a community that went out of its way to make you feel welcome - almost makes a person want to do it again! | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This was my 43rd marathon and the organization was among the best I have experienced at a marathon from pre-race communication to packet pick-up to the finish line. And let's not forget the post party! Everyone was very friendly and incredibly helpful. The race directors did an incredible (and by no means easy) job of making this a great experience for all. Loved the lipstick stop, very fun! And of course, have to comment on the gorgeous medal and the tech finisher shirt, very nice! Keep up the great work! It is easy to see why everyone says the Little Rock Marathon is a must! It's one I will definitely recommend to other runners. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 For the most part, I loved LR. I ran the half and set a PR, so I was pleased to say the least. 1. The start line was way to narrow. 2. Walkers (not knocking y'all) should have been farther towards the back of the pack so that runners could get through and not have to weave in and out. 3. Horrible hat given at the finish line; being a woman, I will never wear that hat. 4. Holiday Inn was not helpful with late check-outs at all. I had an evening flight back to Houston and they wanted to charge me a full day to take a shower; I had to borrow a shower from somebody that was staying through Monday. 5. Where were the cans? No potties at the start line. Ok, the good: Loved the course (very pretty), the volunteers throughout the course and finish line were outstanding, water stops were great, spectators were great, chocolate milk was awesome, the expo was small but had great booths, and packet pick-up was easy. All in all, great experience. |
