This was my first marathon and it was everything I could have possibly hoped for. Thank you so much to the management team - I'm a fellow event manager and know how much you put into this event to make it what it was! THANK YOU for your commitment to success and the runners!

My second year to run the half, and still the friendliest race around! The usual cold front blew in the night before, but, hey, it's Fargo!

Appreciate the change to a technical shirt, but not real good quality, and why should we have to go to the Scheel's store and PAY to have them iron on a "Finisher's" logo? I've also never seen "finisher" t-shirts for sale to everyone at the expo! Put the finisher's shirts at the finish line for the finishers!

Also didn't care for the change in the area after the finish line with the barrier to get to the tables where you couldn't come back into the food area. There were no tables or chairs in the finisher's area to sit, rest, or eat your food! We tried to sit on the gymnastic mats, but then they started an exhibition (which was cute and skilled, but why have it in the finisher's area while the race was going on?). If you went through the barrier to sit at a table (or meet your family), you weren't allowed back into the food area to get more food or drink. An unwelcome change from last year.

Otherwise, hospitality and organization were tops again, and the friendly support of the volunteers and community is unparalleled.

"Fairly Good Event" (about: 2007)

I know the race directors cannot change the fan support... but the north side of town tanked. Miles 11 and 12 were virtually deserted only 2 hours into the race. I can only imagine how lonely it must have been for the four-plus-hour finishers.

Also, I am VERY disappointed that we were required to purchase a finisher's shirt if we wanted one. That was a very unhappy surprise.

"A good race that suffers from growing pains" (about: 2007)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Fargo Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 5

This is a solid race, but the success of the race is starting to cause problems. I have a few suggestions to help make it better.
1. The size of this race dictates that the marathon and half marathon be run separately. As a faster runner in the marathon, I had to go around a good number of slower half marathoners at several points in the course. Plus, the group start made it hard for me to identify the other marathoners until the first course split at mile 6.
2. The Fargo Dome finish is nice, but it is really dark in there and that makes photography difficult. My finish line photo was terrible due to the light quality and my family couldn't get any good shots either.
3. The shirt was nice, but PLEASE do not make me pay to make it say finisher. I finished a marathon; I want a shirt that says so. And no, I don't want to pay Scheel's $15 for one.
4. The twists and turns of the course were well marked, so that was not a problem and it helped to not run into the wind for long stretches, but please try to reduce the amount of concrete that we run on.
5. Since you live in a windy place, please try to secure balloons and other items around the course so they do not blow onto the course. While running a marathon, I don't want to untangle myself from balloons.

Overall, great job! Just work on the things above and you'll make it even better for next year.

"Encouraging and Amazing Experience" (about: 2007)

The Fargo Marathon was my first marathon I've ever run. What I thought would be hours of pain ended up being hours of cheering and encouragement!!!! I thought the course was excellent, except I did not know that we finished inside the Fargodome - which hurt me a little. The fans and volunteers were one of the main reasons Fargo was amazing. There was not one block that did not have people with smiles on their faces, yelling words of encouragement. I really enjoyed running the Fargo Marathon; I am still on a runner's high and know now this will not be my last marathon. Thanks for making my first marathon a memorable one!

"Fun, Fast and Friendly - As Promised!" (about: 2007)

My goals for running the Fargo Marathon were simple: PR, qualify for Boston, and enjoy the weekend with my family. Thanks to Mark Knutson, the pace team and hundreds of volunteers, the event exceeded my expectations!

Fun - The event was well organized, easy to navigate and staffed by friendly personnel. The crowds along the course and in the dome were great. Following the marathon, a youth run was held. My kids really enjoyed the race and the medal.

Fast - I expected a marathon course in Fargo to be flat. However, I thought the 18 mph wind out of the north would play a bigger role in the race. As advertised, the course was pretty well-protected from the elements, which made for a fast course. It also helped having a pace team available. Not only did our pace team leader come in exactly at the stated pace time, but he was a great leader on the course.

Friendly - all of the volunteers and fans were terrific!

Congratulations, Mark, on a great race!

This was my second half marathon and I'm 63! I don't know how you can improve it - unless you can control the wind! I loved the lefse in May! The whole atmosphere was one of support and pleasure. See you next year for the full!

The fans were very welcoming and friendly. It would have been nice to have timers to see at all the break points to see how I was doing. It was nice to see that many porta-potties, but I think some Purell would have been a nice thing too. This is also the first race that I have been involved in that the 5K, the half marathon and the full marathon all started together; for my first Fargo Marathon, it was a little confusing.

This was my third marathon, and I qualified for Boston by goin' far in Fargo! I've run Twin Cities and Des Moines before. The organization was great, the whole town was supportive and crowd turn-out was second only to Twin Cities, which is ten times bigger (you wouldn't know by the crowd turn out). Never was alone alone the entire course. The course was great; nice variety of scenery. Faults: Course map needs to be more user-friendly for family and friends traveling with runners. I will be back!

A- Overall

The downside is that the course had too many turns, especially in the 2nd half. In addition, the asphalt/concrete really beat the legs up.
Got to the pasta dinner at 7:50 p.m. I know it was closing; still, have food that is warm and enough to feed hungry runners.

The crowds very aweome! Eighth St. - you guys rock. The area by the golf course a newer community should follow your example and embrace this event.

The Homewood Inn is across from the start/finish and very nice rooms.

The post-race area was well stocked with food and excellent choices. In addition, the local paper had in-depth coverage about the race.

If you have not run this race, do so, prior to it becoming overcrowded like the rest. Mark K, place a cap on this event - keep it a mid-size gem that it is!!

I was the 3:30 pacer and had a really good time. At mile 16 I had 30+ runners with me. The t-shirt and medal were well done.

KUDOS TO FARGO!
