COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 1 It was freezing cold and windy, and there was no support at all on the course. I suggest finding a race where there is more support and interest. Although, the course is fairly flat and easy, the wind is terrible. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 This is a fun event and has the potential to be even better. The 1/2 marathon seems to get lost. I have done both full and 1/2 marathons, and I simply prefer 1/2 marathons. Even your questions at the end only refer to the full marathon; what's up with that? The lack of adequate port-a-potties on the route was a bummer. The turn-off for the 1/2 marathon was a bit confusing and the last 1/3 was very boring. It would be great to take some of the energy from the first 1/2 and spread it throughout the entire event. The food at the end was not great, and having folks handing out samples at the finish line was annoying. I like this event for many reasons and if some fine tuning is done, it will be a fabulous event. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was mine and my husband's first marathon. We absolutely loved it! We can't wait for next year. I hope next year the 1/2 and full marathon point are better marked, but we had a great time. There was some great entertainment, and the spectators on the street were great also. We are definitely going to run again. | |

"My best race... ever!" (about: 2007)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 This was the perfect race for me: perfect course, perfect weather and I'd done the training. I've run eight marathons and it helped to know the routine, e.g. getting to the start line early, but I think the organizers did well with so large a field of runners. Spectators? When there are any people on the course who come out to offer a runner encouragement, I love 'em. To tell you the truth, I was so focused I hardly acknowledged them... but I appreciated them. Great traffic and intersection control. I do agree that, at the end, it was a bit tough on my tired legs when the half and the full merged. I've worked on organizing races and I appreciate the work done to create the setting for my best race ever! | |

"Disappointing for a first-timer" (about: 2007)

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 I chose this as my first marathon because it's known for being fast and flat. It was, and I am grateful. The first 7 miles were fantastic, and I had a great time. My issues: 1) The turnoff between the half and the marathon wasn't marked and there was just a person standing there pointing. 2) There was nothing after mile 7 - no bands and very few people. 3) I was a slower runner, but exactly at 4 hours and 30 minutes, they pulled up EVERYTHING - the mile markers, water, Gatorade and FOOD. I got to mile 20 and thank God there was a lady who had a box of animal crackers. I spent the last 6 miles dodging traffic, being pushed by police cruisers and told to get on the sidewalk. They say the last 6 miles are the hardest, and they were - not because I was tired (I actually ran the whole time), but because I didn't know where I was going (no cones), how far I had to go (no markers), and I couldn't get water and food when I needed it the most. I was disappointed. | |

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 I truly appreciate that they took the comments last year seriously. The markers were visible and the spectators by the finish line were great. Their energy provided me with a needed "push" to reach the finish line. It was more organized in the finish line, with more space for the runners to roam around and get water and food. However, I was so disappointed and pretty upset that there were not enough safety pin. I had ZERO safety pin. I drove from California with my 6- and 8-year-old and got at the expo around 3:30 p.m. My kids were not in the mood to look for a store to buy a pin. The last thing I would like to do was to go to my hotel and rest. So even with just a simple safety pin, it was a huge inconvenience for anyone who traveled far and not familiar with the place to look for a store selling safety pin. How come the organizers did not put an effort to get more safety pins for the runners? | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 I had a good time running this marathon. The start of the race was GREAT! The spectators during the middle of the marathon were scarce; however, the fans that were present were supportive and helpful. For 2008, it needs to be clearer when the marathon and half marathon break-off. Las Vegas is a great city in which to run a marathon. Transportation to and from the starting line and expo was very easy. I recommend staying on the south end of the Strip where it is closer to the start of the race. It is a young marathon and will only get better. In summary, I will be back next year. | |

"NEEDS HELP" (about: 2007)

COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 1 This race needs a little help. This race had no energy other than the fireworks at the start. The half marathon looked cool, but the full marathon... well, you could hear the crickets. No bands, and NO energy past mile 7 or 8.... First marathon that I have been to that has run out of safety pins at the expo. Food-wise there was nothing to eat after the race other than trail mix. NOT FRIENDLY TO SLOW RUNNERS. MORE CONCERN TO OPEN THE ROADWAYS. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 After going into the race with low expectations based on feedback from previous years, I was thoroughly impressed with every aspect of the race. I've run about 30 marathons throughout the country and world. I think Devine took to heart the negative comments from the past and made the right changes. The communication prior to the race was timely and valuable. The expo was well organized and had a great number of quality vendors. The race start was chaotic, but that is to be expected with nearly 20K runners. With that said, I found it easy to drop my bag and get to the start line. The course is set up for a very fast time and gives runners beautiful vistas of the surrounding mountains. Fans on the course were as expected - good turnout for 6 a.m. on the Strip, then sparse as we ran through neighborhoods. The finish line area was also well organized. I was very happy with the support stations throughout the course. And plenty of porta-potties. My only complaint - when the marathon and half courses merge at mile 24, it becomes chaotic. The half runners/walkers spread out across Frank Sinatra Blvd., making it difficult for the runners. We had to bob and weave in and out, taking a toll at that stage in the race. Other than that, well done!!! | |

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 2 As I am one of the "slow" ones, I understand the reason for opening the street at a certain time. But the mile markers were taken down, and also the cones; if it wasn't for the porta-potties, we would have been completely lost. Lucky for me, at the end of "Frank Sinatra" St. a native of L.V. was there to point the way.... As for the spectators, we understand - we're at the end. BUT there was a "block group" waiting for us, with water and bagels. Thank you, thank you. I wish they knew how much we appreciated them. The gentleman with the microphone at the finish line was a pleasure. Please thank him too. He shook my hand and said, "He was waiting for us." I guess it was not all that bad. |
