"Mean hills at the end" (about: 2007)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 I really wanted to B.Q. at the race and I was right on target to do so. Then, someone put some hellish hills at the end that just kept on coming. Who is that mean person(s)? I missed my time by less than 4 minutes. I agree the course should be run in reverse. That was my first comment at the finish. I finished in under 4 hours and I got the LAST beer. I'm sorry for all the other participants who didn't get one (or more than one). I love Tulsa- it's a great town. I am not sure I would do this run again. | |

"Would Have Been Nearly Perfect..." (about: 2007)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 4 ...had the food and beer not run out. I'm a race director and runner - I understand how challenging race-directing is - but there's just no excuse for running out of beer and food so early... BEFORE the 4-hour runners even finished. Cut it back to 1 shirt for next and just be damn sure the food and beer lasts until AFTER the last finishers are in. The organization of this event was superb... pre-race communication was helpful, expo and registration was well-organized, plenty of port-o-johns at the start, course was good, mile markers were accurate, digital timer displays at EVERY mile, bands playing throughout the course, nice crowd support, excellent traffic control, and a well-organized finish area. Would have given "organization" 5 stars if the food/beer was done right. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 A top-notch marathon experience. The facilities were excellent. The course was scenic and nice - except for that two-plus mile mountain run that they threw in near the end. I've run Dallas several times, Austin twice, and Chicago twice; the post-race experience at Tulsa was superior to any of the others. Granted, this is in part because of Tulsa's lower numbers, but it is also because the facilities accommodated the runners well. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 2 Guys, You did a lot right. Having two nice running shirts was great! Medal was cool! Expo was ok! Weather was fantastic! Police were good! Water points were good! My one gripe: No food left at the finish line for the slower runners (5:30)!! I'm slow and probably could stand to lose a few pounds, but to run out of food is not cool. I've run 10 marathons this year and you were at number 2 except for this!! So I drop you to number 4 or 5. DK ST. Louis | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 I thought that the new course was nice and I didn't mind the hills at the end like I thought I would. Having a downhill finish was a very nice change (I did the half last year). The hills preceding the last mile were tough but it was a nice change from riverside. I thought the crowd support was good and the volunteers were outstanding. The weather was great and the cloud cover helped to keep it cool the entire morning. This is only my second marathon but I certainly think that it was well run and I'm looking forward to next year. | |

"Good Race, but could be Great" (about: 2007)

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 Overall, this was a great run. Good weather, organized race, nice course. There are a few recommendations I would make for next year. First, put a course map in the race packet. There was a 4-page info packet but no map, and they had run out of maps at the expo so I had to hunt one down in the local newspaper. Second, reverse the course so that the massive hills are at the start and not the finish. This could be done easily because the course starts and finishes in the same place. Finally, there were plenty of medical aid stations but none of them had ICE. I had trouble with my knee and needed ice at the finish, but I was told they didn't have any and that I could ice it when I got home (which was 3 hours away). Ice is essential, especially at the finish. I would recommend this race to a friend. Great technical t-shirts and a really neat finisher's medal. | |

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 The organization was top-notch. From the technical shirts to the great food at the finish, everything was excellent. The course was improved from the 2006 course (uphill last mile), but hills after 22 miles of racing are not ideal. Even Boston is all downhill after mile 20. I would suggest reversing the course and putting the hills at the beginning of the course and the flat part at the end like the Tulsa Run. The city of Tulsa has the making of a PR course (Riverside Drive) or a hilly tough-as-nails course (miles 22-24). Unfortunately, this year's course had both features. It would be nice to have one or the other and let the race develop a tradition as such. The spectators were great when present, but many miles without them. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Enjoyed the changes to the course that were made this year - very nice to finish running through the Utica Square neighborhood and Woodward Park. The race premiums (race shirt and finisher's shirt) are both of excellent quality. A great race and very well organized. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Things good: The organization was wonderful. This race is as different from Chicago a one could be - plenty of everything. The weather was wonderful for running - gentle south breeze, temps in the 50's and overcast. Tulsa is a city full of warm friendly people. The crowds weren't large (probably in church), but what were there were fantastic. The race staggering times - great idea. Things I wish were different: Tulsa's roads are not the best. All in all though, we loved it and recommend it highly. | |

"Very Walker-Friendly; Good Organization!" (about: 2007)
First Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 My friends and I are basically moderately fast walkers. Course was very walker-friendly and the support was awesome. Was a little concerned as I had heard others complain about the hills at the end. But they apparently changed the route for this year and we all thought it was awesome. The volunteers were friendly and welcoming and eager to assist if needed. The end was great with lots of fan support and music. We walked the quarter (6.5 miles) and we decided right at the end that this is one we'd like to do next year. I'm told the food was wonderful but we left right after finishing. I'd certainly recommend to other walkers because there were over 300 walkers so you didn't feel like you were holding anything up. Loved it!!! |
