The 2012 Fox Valley Marathon was my first race ever. I was very nervous and had no idea what to expect but the staff/volunteers made everything so easy, except for the actual running! The organization of the event was great and everyone cheering got me through some tough areas when I thought Id never finish. Thank you to everyone who made this event so great! See you next year.

Please have different colored cups for Gatorade vs. water. It would reduce consfusion especially since sometimes gatorade would be first, sometimes last, sometimes on the right, sometimes on the left. Consistency and different cups would be helpful. Otherwise, great race as usual!

"Great experience!" (about: 2012)

This was a wonderful race for the second year in a row! Both the expo and race start were easy to get to (I was actually annoyed that I had to park a whole 4 blocks away from the start since I arrived a bit late-then I reminded myself that I'd be walking at least a half mile at most other races). The spectators were more plentiful than last year and everyone was loud and enthusiastic. The race day weather was great, as this race always seems to fall on one of the first cooler weekends. There were a couple short areas of construction to run through but everything was well marked. One of the best things, though, is that Fox Valley is NOT one of those races where 80% of the field is doing the half and you feel like you're alone as soon as they split off. In my experience (and I have no idea if the numbers actually agree with me) is that participants seemed to be split fairly evenly between the 3 distances, although the marathon probably had a bit more. There was good food and friendly volunteers at the end and I got to pick up an extra medal thanks to their new policy of awarding medals to those who run the race (any distance) in consecutive years - also a huge perk! (and even with this the registration price was reasonable). Great job!

I did the 1/2 Marathon, and had thought that I would do the Chicago Marathon in 2013. No way now. The Fox Valley Marathon is just so well run, so scenic, and with volunteers that just can't be beat. Why pay hundreds of dollars more just to be able to put the word 'Chicago' in front of 'marathon'? 40k people, suckin' up bus fumes, concrete jungle...forget about it. FVM is the best, and I'll be running the full FVM in 2013!

"good but crowded until race split," (about: 2012)

Cannot allow more racers; too crowded for first 7 miles or so on track. Some weird loops to get mileage, okay overall. Few spectators, but great volunteers.

I loved how well this marathon was organized. From the start they made us feel at home with the email list and Facebook updates. The race was great. A smooth and efficient start, good pace groups, a scenic course, great fans and awesome volunteers made this a great experience for my first marathon!

This was the most well run race of any distance that I have ever run. This group knows what they are doing.

This course is beautiful along the river. Getting to and from is simple and it is great for spectators. The guides put out by the organizers are so thorough and make it easy for spectators to track their runner and have a good time, too.

The staff was well organized; the course was well marked with plenty of water/aid stations. Running an asphalt trail with a tree canopy was a big plus! For the size of the race, there were many enthusiastic spectators - the course is basically an out & back that allows people to see 'their' runner in several different spots. This would be a great first time race & is a great BQ race.
