COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 This course is a PR course and it is a blast. Volunteers and spectators are great - very enthusiastic and happy to help out every step of the way. Good organization - the entire town of MB is in on it. Lots of police giving their time, etc. etc. There are zero hills in it. ZERO! Apparently this course gets windy from time to time (it did get a little windy in the 2nd half of the course a bit) but this year it didn't seem to make a difference in my time. My only gripe was the parking beforehand - coming from where I was driving from, I, along with a lot of other people, kept getting lost trying to find a parking spot. There were cars following other cars around the back road deadends and stuff - I actually got a good laugh at people getting lost - but I still got to the race with 15 minutes to spare. If I was running this race super-seriously for a PR, I would have probably been a little frantic, but I took this race with the laidback approach and enjoyed myself. I will definitely consider going back to this one in attempts for a PR. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 4 They really have a nice race plotted out here. Very enjoyable (I ran the half marathon). Just wish the management could get the finishing times correct. My chip time was 2 minutes lower than race time and they have them the same. Only in Myrtle Beach do you train all year for this!!! | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Run Myrtle Beach - a fantastic marathon. In looking over the Marathon Guide website, one can find a variety of events. Some, like Big Sur, are beautiful scenic races. Others, like Marine Corps, offer a variety of experiences (running in the Capital, training with friends, etc.). Still others provide living history (Chickamauga or Bataan Memorial) or survival tests (any in Wyoming or Colorado come to mind). Run Myrtle Beach for speed! Myrtle Beach provides fantastic organization and excellent operational support. The flat and fast course can qualify participants for a PR or Boston. Additionally, this race has not grown to a cumbersome management level like other "destination" marathons. The only problem I identified was the combined start of the marathon relay, the half marathon, and the marathon. One spends the first two miles dodging other competitors. However, this probably did not represent a big difference from other large races and MB thins out by mile 3-4 so one can get onto pace. Mile markers readily available (although they did not seem 100% accurate - that may just represent my pacing inconsistency, however). Runners especially appreciate the spirit and skill of the volunteer staff. They were out in unseasonably cool temperatures and were friendly and enthusiastic. I will certainly be back to this fast, well-organized event. A decade of experience has paid dividends to this race. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 I did the half marathon. This was a flat, fast course. I thought the scenery was fine and the fans were good too. I'm debating running the full marathon in '07 to try to qualify for Boston. | |

I can't believe how some people whine and complain about every single detail of a good race. Who cares about what color the freakin' Gatorade is? I WILL RUN THIS RACE AGAIN IN 2007. | |

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 Packet pick-up and expo were fine. The course had a few down-and-backs that were kind of boring. Spectator turn-out was much lower than my previous experiences. Runners got confused at hydration stations because some people had water and some had PowerAde. The volunteers had to yell "Water! Water!" or the like so runners could know who to get cups from. Signs would be a great help to keep runners from getting disoriented. The other issue I have is that I looked on the website to find out which flavor of PowerAde they would be using so I could train with it. I got ONE cup of that flavor, and about three other flavors along the way. I'm just glad it didn't mess up my stomach! | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 All right, you guys..... this was no big city marathon.... but it had plenty of positive points. If you need people cheering for you all the way then this is not for you. I ran this race to try to qualify for Boston. It turned out I wasn't ready to do so, but the MB Marathon gave me the best chance possible. The weather was IDEAL- a bit cold at the start but by mile 2 I wised I had worn shorts. The race was very flat and had good volunteers and good aid stations. My husband was able to see me 8 or so times on the course. I like beach off-season marathons for this reason- not too many people around so it's easy for spectators to get around. For me, I would rather see my hubby 8 times than see a lot of random strangers throughout. The expo was a nice event, and our hotel (Sea Mist) was an older resort but our one year old enjoyed the on resort gift shop, playground, pools, etc. Frankly I was very preoccupied with my watch and didn't care about the scenery but it was nostalgic for me in that I used to vacation there as a kid. I did not find the course to be boring at all. Another cool thing was the Ripleys fun run and 5k the night before, We had a nice family dinner at Broadway at the beach, went to Ripleys, and watched the shorter races the night before. There is truly something for everyone....I will be back for sure. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 I don't get the griping about this marathon. I've done over 200 marathons in all 50 states and 6 continents and this is one of the best. How can you whine about a flat course on the ocean? The off-season rates at the oceanside resorts make this a destination marathon. We flew in and out of Atlanta with stops at the newly disignated Congaree National Park on the way there and at Charleston on the way back. Enjoy you self-selected sport and thank the volunteers for all their work for putting on events for us to whine about (besides our disappointing performance). |
