First Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Steamtown was my first first marathon and it was one of the best experiences of my life! The course was unbelievable. It stimulates your mind the entire time and I found that I didn't need my music. The crowd participation was also unbelievable. It seemed like there were people around every corner cheering the runners on. I can't say enough about this race. Everything was just so awesome. I will be running this one again for sure. Words just don't measure up to the entire experience!!! | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 The spectators kept me motivated throughout the entire run. Their encouraging words helped me reach the top of the hill when my legs felt like they were turning into jelly. The race was extremely organized. We had not one problem. The food after the race was amazing. Those cookies. Yum. Thank you everyone for a day I will never forget. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This is a fantastic marathon. The pre-race emails are hilarious. The community volunteers were heartwarming. There were just the right number of runners and cheerleaders throughout. And the course was beautiful with the fall leaves changing everywhere I looked. COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Thank you to everyone involved with the Steamtown Marathon for giving me an amazing first marathon experience. The organization was top notch - from the emails, the race packet, the expo, aid stations, and the finishing food. I have nothing but good things to say about this race, and it's a fast course. I can't believe how much I got for my registration fee - race, shirt, medal, finishing food, after-party. This was so much more than a race; it was about the kindness and generosity of a town. I'm reminded of the quote from Kathrine Switzer - "If you are losing faith in human nature, go out and watch a marathon." | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This marathon is one that shouldn't be missed. Everything was excellent- pre race communication, organization, course, aid stations, volunteers, shirt, medal, post race food. All you have to do is show up and run! The neighborhoods that you run through embrace the event, with lots of extra aid stations and enthusiastic cheering. I look forward to returning! | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my second marathon and tenth race of the year and it was so much fun! From the cheer squads/volunteers to the beautiful downhill scenic course, you will enjoy all of it. The staff/volunteers are just lovely. Many of them will look at your bib and say your name while cheering for you. The course is pretty fast minus the last three miles that have a few hills (a doozy right at the end). Plus there were peirgois at the end!!! A definite for anyone trying to qualify for Boston and a great first marathon for runners. | |

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 If you are coming from flat areas this should not be a candidate for you to PR or BQ. Besides the steep downhill the first quarter of the course and the uphill the last few miles, the flat sections of the course are few and far between.Also, there were no pacers this year to guide you along. This is not to discourage you from running the race.The course is beautiful and the people of Scranton and surrounding towns are amazing and make it worthwhile. However, if you are looking to make time this is not the place to do it. Steamtown is a challenge. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 The Steamtown Marathon was everything I had hoped and more! Great autumn race with scenic course winding through the local burroughs and along the Lackawanna River. Fortunately the weather was excellent which helped keep a smile on my face from start to finish. Well organized and excellent communications with funny emails that gave us a laugh. It's true, take it easy on the first 8 miles and save some energy for the last 3 miles, you will need it! | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 The best start and the best finish of any marathon I've ever run. Great small town feel, everyone is so nice and supportive, so easy logistically (sitting in the warm gym until right before the start a major plus), on course support by spectators simply amazing, food at finish absolutely brilliant. COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I love this marathon and have run it 6 times. I live in Florida and the weather is typically optimal race weather. Volunteers are amazing, and the course is diverse and beautiful. Can't say enough, but check out other comments to verify. You won't be disappointed. |
