This was an absolutely beautiful course. And the hills were not nearly as bad during the last 6 miles as they looked on the elevation map. It was really hot and humid, so it was a hard race for everyone and I did not come close to the time I had trained for. But I enjoyed the course and the spectators. My only complaint is that while they had plenty of supplies, the AID STATIONS WERE WAY TOO FAR APART. They knew it was going to be hot - there is no excuse to make runners go 2.5 miles between aid stations. It is a bad sign when you are already thirsty in the first few miles. There were also a lot of aid stations at the end with gum, candy, chips - but where are the fluids?! I wanted drinks not gum!!! The race directors really need to do something about this - especially in the last 10K. There should be water/powerade at every mile.

Like other posters, this was a personal worst but also one of the best from a personal enjoyment point of view. Spectator support was awesome. Organization fantastic. These guys were ready. I run with a bottle and they refilled it from a gallon at the water stops! Thanks to the U2 cover band for playing my request; the guy with the BBQ for the Brat. and the several other spectators for playing along with my antics.

Great job all.

"Hot and Hard this year, but wonderful!!!!!!" (about: 2007)

Wow. I live/train in Atlanta and should have been prepared for the heat this year but wasn't. I didn't run as fast as I wanted, but more importantly was absolutely in awe of the beautiful course and people. The spectators were better than ANY I have experienced in my prior 8 marathons. The aid stations were exceptionally prepared for the heat. There were abundant officials and medical assistance if needed. Again, the crowds were fantastic providing water and hosing down runners in the 80+ heat and high humidity. I can not say enough good things about the experience I hadeven though it was my slowest time ever. After all, if it wasn't hard, why would we (as marathoners) continue to do this?? Congratulations Twin Cities and thank you.

I loved the race even though I ran my worst time 4:01. I was in wave #1 and wanted good time but I accept this fact.
The course is perfect! Summit 'hill' is nothing to worry about since the spectators push you up that small long incline. The metropolitan area is great! I will return on a cooler day and run my PR! 3:30

"All in all a good experience" (about: 2007)

This was my first marathon. I actually thought the start was easier and less crowded than I thought it would be, but I was out for no record time, just the hope of finishing. From what I saw their was a lot of just average everyday people out there just like me. We paid our money just like the elites. The water stations were out of cups towards the end. The fruit stations were out. Seems to me the slower people are out there longer and needed this also. At the end barely able to even walk we found our way to the massage tent only to find out they were shut down. We finished it in the 6 hours, we also needed that massage, again probably more than the elites. If we all pay the same should we not all be entitled to the same benifits as everyone in Wave 2? That was very dissappointing. Had heard the crowd support was second to none. Again got very slim at the end for the average Joe. Still glad I did it but wont be coming back.

I was extremely impressed with everything about this year's TCM. I ran a personal worst... by a lot, but the organization and fantastic spectator and volunteer support were truly amazing. The weather was brutal - temps and humidity were in the 80s - but there was no shortage of drinks at any stop and neighbors offered ice and turned on sprinklers. This race was not much fun - in fact it pretty much sucked - but TCM proved why it is world-class.

This race was fantastic - hot and humid and they were ready for it. There was plenty of water and PowerAde. Great spectators (with hoses!). Wonderful and plentiful volunteers. No wonder they sell out early!! Great race!!

This was my first marathon and I found it to be wonderful. The spectators were amazing. It was very hot and humid, and spectators had sprinklers for us and were hosing us down. It was very emotional to watch everyone surrounding me and cheering me on even though they don't know me. I cried when I saw the finish line and the beautiful capitol behind it! I will never forget this experience!

"A marathon that lives up to your expectations" (about: 2007)

This is a must do marathon. If your ideal marathon is to run along lakes, rivers and beautiful fall foliage then this is your marathon. The race expo was one of the best and most organized I have seen. The food at the pasta meal was catered by a great local restaurant and was the best deal in town. Speaking of best, I have run some big marathons...Chicago and Houston to name a few but have never seen a finish like this one. The flag flying over the capital with thousands of cheering fans was an emotional finish. What stands out the most about this race was the volunteers. I read that Minnesota leads the nation in volunteering and I now know this is true. With hot temperatures in the mid-west even Chicago could not get there water station volunteers to keep up with the heat on Oct. 7th but the volunteers in Minn./St. Paul did not let us down and all 7,215 of us owe them deeply for their efforts. I know I had to increase my water intake and it was always there and very efficient. This race and their volunteers will not let you down even if the weather does. My advice is to stay at the Crown Plaza in St. Paul. It is within a few minutes walking distance of the expo and busses take you from the hotel to the start and from the finish to the hotel. It was easy and affordable.

"Amazing fan support and volunteers-beautiful race!" (about: 2007)

This was my first marathon, and had been told about how great the fan support is, but this was beyond anything I had expected. With 300,000 spectators, you can't ask for much more by way of inspiration! I had been running well until mile 18.5, which is when my legs betrayed me and cramped up severely. I had to limp, walk, and intermittently jog the rest of the way. However, there were numerous people (spectators) who came up to me and offered to walk with me, give me their shoulder so I could try to stretch, and just empathize with me. I even had a marathon coach walk up to me off the side of the road and told me how proud I should be of myself. From all the live bands, bagpipers, percussionists, and choirs, to the numerous little kids looking for high-fives, I can't imagine there being many more enjoyable marathons to run...I'll be back!
