"It was a great first-marathon!" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

I'm a local who trained for and participated as my first marathon. I can only compare to my training runs, but the course was very flat and very scenic. The organization and volunteer support was great! They had exactly what I needed as a runner (i.e., nutrients and a positive word) and each and every voluteer displayed their true Southern hospitality.

"I loved this fast, beautiful out and back course" (about: 2003)

The fact that I didn't PR had more to do with my stupidity (forgetting to eat before the race!) ... it was very well organized with fantastic support. The MS Track Club folks were just wonderful -- and though I'm trying to do the 50 states thing, this one I want to do every year.

This is the flatest course I've run -- though out and back it seemed like it was downhill all the way -- Gatorade and water every 2 miles and plenty of stations with fruit, gels, candy and Fig Newtons! And though the course was open (it is a Federal Highway -- Natchez Trace Parkway) to cars, I didn't get close to getting killed! Lots of support from the other runners (especially if you're not too fast!) and the volunteers. Keep up the great work y'all!

"great small race" (about: 2000)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 1

I've run this race and I run on the marathon course in some of my training runs. If its all different kinds of wildlife you want to see then this is the place to be, it's run right down the natchez trace which is flat and straight just a couple of very small gradual hills that you won't notice. I PR'D on this course.there aren't any large crowds but the post marathon food is good. this is a well organized race.so if you want a PR I would consider the MS marathon in clinton,ms I will be there.my name is TROY WIGGINS

"Great Marathon Walk" (General Comments)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 1

This was a really great experience for a former runner, now racewalker. There was an early start, water and sport drink on the course for the full 5+ hours I needed and even nice plaques awarded to the top 10 racewalkers.

"Good PR course" (General Comments)

Right outside of Jackson Mississippi, this race is easy to get to. No frills, but very well supported along the way. Gently rolling out and back course that zips by. A lot of spectators but they are mostly cows and goats. Beautiful area.

"Very enjoyable running experience." (General Comments)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 4

This is a relatively small marathon. The course is an out & back mostly flat with some small rolling hills. The scenery is pristine sections of forested land with some farm land along the way as well. Needless to say not a big crowd of supporters, but the aid stations were well staffed and supplied. I didn't run my best time but that is no fault of this course. I did run one of my most enjoyable runs; I like the peace and quiet. Thanks to the club that puts this on along with the sponsors and supporters.

"Low-Key, Nicely Scenic" (General Comments)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 1

(Ran in '02). A nice antidote for expensive, crowded, hassle-ridden mega-marathons, this one had a $20-25 entry fee that incl. LS tee, gloves, and enough organization to adequately cover marathoners' needs/wants. The out-and-back on the Natchez Trace Pkwy. is curved and tree-lined enough to provide variety. But there are always complainers; one said course was 'boring... just tree after tree.' With people heading in both directions and aid stations appx. every 2 mi, the area's starkness is offset by sufficient people contact. Though not entirely flat, the rises/falls are not difficult. For a small event, post-race spread is decent and includes (for those with cast-iron post-marathon stomachs) pizza and a home-cooked rice dish. Weather in '02 great... starting out mid-40s and overcast, warming to high 50s and clearing for last finishers. 10k (w/80-something finishers in '02) starts time and shares course. Small-race feel, but no major shortfalls, in my opinion. A pleasant marathon experience.

"Mississippi's Marathon on the Natchez Trace" (about: 2001)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

The 2001 Mississippi Marathon went 13.1 one miles along the historic Natchez Trace before returning the same way to the start. While running along farms
and pine trees, I saw an armadillo, cattle, and civil war markers. The Mississippi Marathon has a nice course and is well organized. January in Mississippi can be a good time to run a marathon.

"beautiful run along natchez trace" (General Comments)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 2

if you're looking for a well organized, extremely beautiful course with a small crowd, this is your perfect marathon. very low cost, easy to get to, and located in the heart of the south. you will not be dissappointed.
