This was far from a flat course, with some significant changes in elevation. The prevailing wind is straight in your face as your run the coastal section (50 mph in 2009). The rest of the course is well sheltered from the wind. Not particularly scenic... well, not in the rain it wasn't. But it was pleasant enough and rural in general. It was well-marshaled, with sufficient water stops. Nice race HQ in the hotel, with showers, pastries, etc.

I ran this in 2006 as my first marathon and qualifier for Comrades. It's well organized, but sadly not very scenic. You imagine that a Cornish coastal marathon will be beautiful - lots of sea views and cliff tops. Unfortunately not. It's mostly run along dank country lanes or Redruth's housing estates - neither of which are very inspiring. This is a reasonably hilly marathon - and watch out for the gales that blow in March, which can seriously hamper progress! No sign of Prince Charles or Camilla! Nice Cornish pastry at the end - vegetarian option too!!

Hi. It was nice to run the marathon again, as last time it was the week after the Grizzly. I wanted to break the course record, which I did, and beating Revis course record was great.

Pity I missed out on the 50 pound as there was no mention that only one person who broke the record, was entitled to it. There is no bias in East Cornwall, as we treat everyone the same; all winners get the same plastic crap, whether from ECH or other clubs.

Marshals were fantastic and cheery. What a great event. Thank you, marshals, for your support.

Both years it has been windy.
