"Best organized & most friendly marathon" (about: 2010)

The marathon route starts from North West River, an Inuit community, across a bridge with a breath taking view of the Mealy Mountains, along the side of Sheshatshiu, an Innu Community and ends in Happy Valley 42.2 km later. It is the most peaceful run with the fall colors of the birch trees along the road. Regular supplies of water, gatorade and cheers are available along the route. The reward at the end is a hug from 'Mina Hubbard' and into the Kinsmen Park to be welcomed by the local music bands and traditional Indigenous food (bear paws, Innu donuts, Char etc). It is the most unique experience.

The course was very scenic, and the organization was superb. The town support was awesome. The post-race food was out of this world, and the awards banquet food and entertainment were totally fantastic. Great job, Jamie and Cathy!

You would be hard-pressed to find a more exciting race than this. Runners are taken 42K from the town of Goose Bay to a small village. After a talk on the history of trapping, the small group is off through the wilderness on a paved road. The scenery is fantastic, and support is mainly by bicycles, including most of the doctors from the local emergency department. The course is rolling hills with one major challenge at about 35 km. The real thrill of the race comes at the finish line where tents are set up in a small field. Cold runners (this is Labrador) can go inside to warm up by a wood stove. All around the field food is available - smoked char, fried atlantic salmon, moose stew, caribou soup, fried bread dough with local berry jam... it's heaven. I don't think anyone missed having no bagels.

The night after the race included a great meal with hilarious entertainment.

Labrador is an expensive place to fly to, but if you are looking for a brilliant and unusual race, this is it.

Very well organized, with lots of volunteers and a great gathering and awards ceremony afterward! It was great to see the entire community both supporting and participating in the run!
