"Excellent first marathon" (about: 2015)

Gusher, March 2015 was my first marathon. I was very pleased. Super stocked aid stations, encouraging volunteers, nice course. Best of all, thanks to police, fire fighters, paramedics, city workers, and countless others, traffic was not a problem. All intersections were stationed with someone, or blocked completely. I will definitely run this one 2016.

I thought the course was very easy and flat except for a couple of short hills at underpasses. There were plenty of well-stocked aid stations and the volunteers appeared to be very well trained. The people were very friendly and helpful. I would do it again if I was in the area.

Double loop course was well marked. Not many spectators through downtown area. Course had plenty of water/aid stations that were all well stocked with water, powerade, bananas, oranges, and various other snacks.

I had a great time. There were plenty of refreshments. The volunteers were friendly and encouraging. I can't wait to do it again.

It was my first marathon and it was well organized. I think the volunteers at the check-in the night before need to be better informed as they were unable to tell me about parking. But upon arrival the next morning, it was very easy to find parking. Through the downtown area, there could have been a few more drink stations, but overall, it was a very well-planned event. I will run it again next year.

"Great marathon but inconvenient location" (about: 2011)

I ran this marathon slowly, and feel that it was a great course. Unfortunately, I had problems with delayed and cancelled flights, and the hotel would not refund me my money when I didn't cancel 24 hours in advance, even though it was not my fault. I think the volunteers deserve most of the credit, except sometimes. After picking up my number, no one told me I had to pick up a chip until a few minutes before the start time. The person handing out the chips should have been next to the package pick-up table. I ordered a small shirt and it seemed so small that it looked like a child's size. I appreciate having fluids and snacks every two miles or so. Since I was a late finisher, I didn't see any volunteer directing at the end. I made an extra loop by the Crocket City. I also think that the food could have been better; it didn't look appealing. Overall, it was a good marathon, and people were extra friendly. I hope they improve with their organization, even though I understand how tough it is to maintain the volunteers for a long time in a marathon.

Don't let the comments from the 2010 race prevent you from experiencing this race! The 2011 Gusher Marathon was an EXCELLENT event. Every aspect of the race was very well organized. The aid stations this year were better than any I've seen at any full or half marathon, including the Country Music Marathon. The course was well marked, with plentiful volunteers to guide you. The course also ran through a nice university campus and past some downtown highlights. Sure, there were some long, unscenic portions, but not bad for a 26.2-mile course. I did the full marathon, and I was worried that I would be completely alone on the 2nd loop, but I wasn't. The spectators hung in there. I even had volunteers on bikes with water, gel, etc. come by multiple times in the last 10 miles offering whatever I needed. I felt like an elite athlete, even though I finished well after 4 hours! Great job, Gusher! I'll be back for sure.

"Great race; improving every year, but needs more f" (about: 2011)

2 previous marathons | 2 The Gusher Marathon, Half Marathon & 5Ks

The second annual Gusher Marathon proved to be a vast improvement over the first. A horde of volunteers, excellent improvements to road markings and signage, better weather, more food and beverage resources, and overall better organization really made this an awesome event. The course is relatively flat and easy, with a few interesting sights along the way. The one improvement I can suggest is that the community needs to get behind this event.

Excellent marathon. Plenty of volunteers. Water stations were well placed, as were the porta-potties. Hope there are more participants.
